Naturist beach? Would you?

We've booked to go to the south of France (Adge) at the end of July, my hubbie says there's a naturist beach nearby and is egging me to go (perving as usual! :-)) I'm not a shy person but I'm really not sure, and there's also our daughter to think about.

Anyone taken the plunge before? I'm really undecided, I'm not sure it's for me.

Well we're off tomorrow on our holidays, I'm still nervous about taking the plunge but I'll give it a shot. Might need some dutch courage first though! :-)

Well we had a family chat about it and we've agreed to give it a try. Our daughter was fine and seemed to take a "I will if you will" approach to the subject. Roll on July!!

Well if my DH starts to mince I'm going to get worried.

I still feel queasy after that walnut whip comment. I think I'm damaged for life

went to a nudist beach before kids, in spain, and loved it. especially the germans doing their exercise routine..swinging arms etc
there were two groups of people there: families and gay men strutting

The Queen Mother's beach house used to be in the dunes behind that stretch of beach. She used to stroll down amongst the happy naked campers, with her bodyguards walking behind. She wore a summer frock, they wore suits. One of her corgis bit my SIL on the ankle. The beach house has burned down, now, I think. It's a FABULOUS walk....

Splutter!
Don't worry - it's usually far too cold on Norfolk beaches to remove your fleece, let alone the warpper on a walnut whip.

Nope, it was the dancer Robert Helpman, but the sentiment remains true. It's the dangling and the waggling that would bother me.

OMG Blu! This will amuse the stepdaughter! Can't wait to tell her. And if we see your dad we'll say hello. Yikes!

I think it was the ballet choreographer Frederick Ashton who once said of nude dancing (a la Hair): "The problem is, not everyething stops when the music does."

pre kids I would. Now I think I would clear the beach if I did it

Apart from my own feelings about myself, it's a combination of wondering how my DD would take to it, and how seeing all those people might affect her. Maybe it's a healthier approach to the human body, but it's a lot more straightforward if children have grown up with it.

we went to a spanish naturist village last year on holiday, it's not really my thing but I didn't want my Spanish friends to think I was prudish and hung up! It was the opposite of pervy, surprisingly innocent and idealistic. a sort of organic farm community in an isolated valley. Sundays were Community organic vegetarian paella day! no cameras allowed. they were all health freaks with beautiful toned tanned Spanish bodies. It was far less pervy than a public nudist beach. The small children loved it. but I'm not sure 10 year olds would feel comfortable with it.

Incidentally it was the best weight loss thing ever, Just thinking about going made me lose the last 10lb I'd gained having dd2

Aloha - Sorry - it's Holkham! The middle stretch betwen Holkham and Overy Staithe! You'll probably see my dad and his walnut whip somewhere in the distance!

I'm not sure I get the thing about people going shopping, etc. au naturel - do people really do this? To me it's more about getting a tan and having a swim, I can't see the point really beyond that.

I should probably add that I'd feel far, far worse in a bikini. Haven't worn a proper bikini ever, I think. Somehow the Germanic nakedness is much easier for me to take, personally.

Never did those vile communal showers at ALL, either. Think I kept claiming a perpetual five-year period...

Hi Karenanne, that might be the exact place we're doing to.

I've heard that there's a naturist beach in Brighton, maybe we should test the water there. Although at least in France there's the comfort of being in a different country.

God, if I was born in France or Germany I probably wouldn't even be worrying about the issue. Strange how cultures can differ so much.

hi justmum ,we went to cap d'age many years ago ,not to the naturist camp but on further along.the naturists actually wander along the beach on a daily basis we used to laugh at them as the majority of them used to suddenly realise that people on the beach we're wearing their cossies and then just turned and went back the other way, although some did just carry on walking past.me myself couldnt do it although do go topless laying down when abroad, but as the naturist and normal beach is close you couldf take a wander down that way and decide on your way.
i have a friend who is a naturist and although im too self concious she claims none of them actually take any notice to them its natural so they arent comparing etc.
hope3 that helps and have a good time

No, no and no. But this is from a person who was shocked to discover you had to endure communal showers in secondary school.

Fair point, although I'd be OK with that. Even if you didn't fancy it, would you let your DH and children try it?

As well as being embarrassed, I would feel physically very uncomfortable with my boobs unsupported

Well if people expect us to let it 'all hang out', then I guess we won't disappoint.

Actually, mine wouldn't exactly hang out, they'd more like flop straight away

Mind you, it seems from other people's comments that very little attention is actually paid to people's bodies.

Well a breast uplift would be vital and then there's the laser tratment for the varicose(sp?) veins. I guess they are my main hang ups!!
