caravans and toilets

I've never stayed in a caravan before, but it might be our best economy option this year. Feel a bit silly asking, but do all caravans have toilets??

Stayed in a static twice last year (also as a child with grandparents). Had open plan living/dining/kitchen area. Kitchen reasonably equipped with gas cooker, microwave, normal under-counter fridge etc. Bedrooms - found beds narrow but took side-rail for DS. Actually had separate toilet (with basin) and shower room. Shower was over a sort of half bath with plug. I think as an adult you could sit on the built in seat and have a sort of bath (ie step over shower door) but we just used it for DS's "toys"(plastic egg cups/colander etc plundered from caravan kitchen)and had stand up showers. Plenty of space for DS to sit and have bath with his normal level of water. Not so much space for me to sit on floor and bath him!

We actually really enjoyed it and felt the caravan met our needs as a family. Planning on going with 6-8 week old this summer.....

Empress, Are you staying in a static caravan? If so, yes, they all have full flushing toilets, showers and sometimes baths just like a normal bathroom.

If you are asking about tourers,they will have a chemical toilet. Thes are fine but do need emptied! So out of consideration for the 'emptier' we restrict ours for wee only.....anything else must be done in the site facilities which are always very good. The chemical toilet does not smell so long as you use the chemicals according to the instructions.

There are two types of chemical toilet. One type is like a potty sitting on top of the holding tank. You remove the potty then empty the tank. The other type has the toilet built into the van like a normal toilet. You slide the holding tank out through a hatch in the side of the van which automatically seals the bottom of the toilet and the top of the tank. Then the tank is taken away and emptied.

Any more questions...ask away. We loved our caravan but unfortunately it got crashed last autumn and as yet, has not been replaced.
