It's been too quiet over here but I thought that would pique your interests!
Anyone care to share any recommendations?

The world at war from the 70s is a brilliant documentary. Obviously at the time many people were still alive to talk about their experiences.

The People's Century.
Still not available on DVD last time I checked, but I got a second hand VHS box set after a lot of searching.

If I could have more than one vote
The seven wonders of the Industrial age
and the more recent - Full Steam ahead also stand out.

In Search of The Dark Ages by Michael Wood has been released on DVD and I loved watching it again. I particularly liked the episode on Athelstan.

Let’s see ... Ken Burns’ series The Civil War, for documentaries. Incredibly moving and almost entirely made of photos from the time and historians talking. For drama, the 1979 French series Richelieu. More true to history than many. Glenda Jackson’s Elizabeth R - took fewer liberties with history (or fashion!) than the more recent things like Cate Blanchett’s films, and GR is the Elizabeth imo. I, Claudius - buggerall to do with actual history (it came from Robert Graves’ novels) but those performances! John Hurt was one hell of a scary piece of work as Caligula.

I came on to say The World at War, too. Nothing touches it.

Another vote for World at War here.
There's also a Civil War one hat is excellent too.
