I stopped in March. I have really bad chest pains and shortness of breath. GP says it is because my lungs are now clearing of the gunk and are tender.

Personally I am going through the panic of thinking I have caused Lung cancer etc!

Anyone else had similar pains/experiences that can reassure me?

chest pain could be caused by anxiety of stopping smoking but you should get any chest pain looked at by doc.

Thanks abouteve - that is what DH said but they never tell me if my smear test or urine sample is negative and that is my only experience of tests really!

Have had a glass of red now, no work tomorrow and will call GP first thing to get an answer hopefully [worry]

Think it's just procedure to follow up with an appointment. Try not to worry. If anything was urgent they would have rang you straight away. But then I'm not a doctor so I don't know this for sure.

Thanks, have had an X Ray (after months of trips to the GP) but only because I was in tears and he said "well what would convince you that it is nothing?" and I said I wanted him to check me for Cancer.

I am waiting for results - had a letter asking me to make an appointment to "discuss" the results - the old phrase no news is good news keeps ringing in my ears

Best get this checked out.

I haven't stopped recently but have had long quits and never experienced the gunk. Well done for quitting .

Each time i stopped smoking I experienced terrible cough, tender lungs, pains etc. So I started again . However, have now stopped since May because am pg and thankfully haven't really had the problems this time. I see that you have already been to your GP. Keep an eye on it over next week, if it doesn't clear - go back and see GP again.

I never had this, I actually found my lung capacity much better within a couple of weeks and no chest pain at all.

Have you been coughing much?
