Thrush for nearly three months

I can go six months with no issues and then if I get it, that's it for months. I've now taken three oral tablets, used natural treatment of multi-gyn twice and used one gyno-daktarin pessary to try and get rid of it. All of the above ease symbols but never quite go.

If I eat any sugar it creates a pretty much instant itch down below and this includes fruit too. So I've tried to cut as much out as possible. I've been to doctors in past who basically just tell me to live with it.

Please any alternative ideas? I have been tested for diabetes about a year ago and was clear.

Ah ok I didn't know about the gel ones, might try that but like you say so much money all the time. The multi gyn stuff I get really helps south but is about £19 a box for five doses. And my moon cup was £21.99 today. Sad

Another thought - if it's related to your period would you consider a contraceptive method where your period would stop or be manipulated to come much less often?

Report
Minime85 · 18/05/2016 19:54

I would although don't need any contraception but tried to get cool in twice and it wouldn't go in! I had two emergency c sections. Had implant and that gave me the most painful thrush I've ever had I was red raw for months until it was taken out. Doctor said I'm too old for normal pill. I suffer with IBS which was original reason I came off pill years ago as couldn't rely on it so would regularly be 'removed' from my system to start all over again if you see what I mean Blush

Or even coil!

You can be over 35 and have the pill as long as you are not a smoker, bmi under 30, no migraines and no significant medical conditions. GPs won't always do it. Mention it when you go to gum as they will have specialist coil fitters/consultants specialising in contraception. One stop shop!

Minime85 · 18/05/2016 20:53

Yeah it was done or not as it turned out at a gum by the consultant as my GP didn't do them then. She tried for nearly an hour was worse than labour! GP refused to give me pill at 37 none of the things you mentioned apply to me either.

Ask at GUM, they (should) happily give you the pill. Ask about extended regimes which would be a good way to reduce the number of days you bleed per year. There's a couple of ways to do it and you can pick which suits you best.

Another vote for dermol (emollient cream wash) in the shower, it changed my life! Seems to help moisturise the area reducing irritation which can can lead to flare ups. I wouldn't be without it!

I had this and it turns out I have Type 2 Diabetes. I'm not saying this is what is but have you had a blood test?

Report
Minime85 · 18/05/2016 21:59

Hi broken having blood tests in two weeks. I had test when it started too and was negative. I will look at that emollient too thanks

I have this around time of my period.
I have had all checks and even been tested for type 2 diabetes which was negative thankfully.
After much trial and error I have decided it is part and parcel of peri menopause.
I find an anti histamine stops itching and a lubricant for immediate relief.

Maverick I tried anti histamine too and it helped. Swab came back today clear of thrush. Did last time too though. Argh.

Hi Minime

This itch first started with me when I was about 45.
I have had endless swabs and "high" swabs all clear.
I have been to an endocrinologist (hormone expert). Various tests all clear.
Final conclusion, as I said before, menopause and whilst it presents itself as an itch, I think it's more likely to be vaginal dryness and age related.
Don't want to be harbinger of doom but I think it is part and parcel of ageing process Confused
So I just take antihistamine and apply lubricant Wink

Glad I found this thread. I've got thrush at the moment and its flipping horrible. However, I've had a discharge problem since late last year - basically I had very major surgery (bladder removal) and for some reason since then have had a massive increase in the amount of discharge I have.

I have had swab after swab taken at the Dr's, one came up with a staph (?) infection which was treated with antibiotics, and one came up with thrush which I was treated for, but all the rest haven't shown a thing, and I'm told they tested for everything. Even though nothing showed up the Dr decided to treat for thrush, so even if I did have it and it wasn't showing, it would have been treated.

The discharge means I have to wear a panty liner all the time which is really annoying and probably not helping. Dr seems to think its probably just hormonal and to do with all the surgery I had, but I have finally been given a gynae referral.

Have just treated myself for what is actually thrush this time (proper cottage cheese type discharge, itching like you wouldn't believe, and very sore) and really hope it clears soon. However, I know that when it clears the discharge will still remain, and quite often I'm itchy with that as well for no apparent reason. The only time it is better is when I'm on my period.

I do low carb the majority of the time. And I actually used to wear pant liners all the time before my surgery for different reasons, so nothing new in that respect. After everything I've been to its quite minor in the grand scheme of things, but its really annoying me, plus I'm toying with maybe trying online dating, and should that happen I would be quite embarrassed about the whole discharge/thrush thing, so really keen to try and get it sorted.

So I have swabs back, all clear. Bloods too only show borderline low iron levels.

So back to square one. I have a gum clinic appointment on 14th booked bearing in mind swabs clear do I cancel? Can they do anything else for me that doctors just can't/aren't willing to do?

This is not going to be popular on this website as they are all clean freaks, but I have found the secret is a few days of not washing. Not even with water.
I found the thrush abated with my period, only to return as the flow eased. So one month I used pads only and didn't wash my bits until the flow stopped (other than tops of legs and external areas). Yes this is gross. I felt disgusting & was careful not to get too close to anyone in public in case I smelt, but I was desperate & would try anything and it did the trick. Washed at the end of my period & regularly since as normal (no soap though) and it hasn't returned. The menstrual blood seems to have 'reset' my ph level or something.

I haven't had thrush as badly as some PP (BV is more my go-to vag disorder ) I have found that acidophilus tablets did help. Also, mixed them up with live yogurt and inserted internally as a soothing kind of thing.

MunchyMunchkin · 07/06/2016 22:06

Still go as they are more likely to spot a skin disorder than your GP as we have to look at vaginas all day long!

And to top it off I have cystitis so the thrush which had just gone after all this time will come back with antibiotics Sad
