Thought would make a new asthma support thread as we get in to the colder weather. Not had a thread for a while. All welcome - questions, moaning, general chat - anything goes :)

No sleep last night! None at all. Could maybe fall asleep now but need ot get up at 7 and am too scared will sleep through the alarm so have just made a cuppa and put the lights on. Must be the steroids keeping me up!

I have had a good rest most of the weekend though. And hopefully after work will sleep tonight.

Over weekend have been put on antibiotics and more steroids. As well as pain meds for ribs. And all the usual asthma meds and some extra nebulised meds to help lungs out.

My friend has decided that I am "being daft" to get a B&B room for when I go to my uni course (it is part time, one weekend in 6 is spent full on lectures then the rest is distance learning while I work full time!) but having a weekend as bad as this has made me realise why I need it so much.

I went to the shops yesterday just a short trip to get a few things and was so breathless and exhausted afterwards. I walked round the shop holding on to the trolley for support and having to breathe deeply to get enough air in. Came home and went stright on nebuliser.

On the bright side my cleaner is coming today and I have food in the fridge. So when I get in this evening I plan on eating, then collapsing in my lovely clean and tidy bedroom!

Just wanted to share my good news - lung function is up from last time. ENO - exhaled nitric oxide levels are down = a good thing.
FVC - forced vital capacity is highest it has ever been = good thing too!

Currently on -

4 x a day 250 flixotide
4x a day 250 seretide
1x a day spiriva
1x a day 10mg montelukast
1x a day cetirezine
40mg predniselone until the 3rd Jan

Increase cetirezine as required
Piriton as required
Salbutamol 5mg nebules as required
Atrovent nebules as required

No hosp admissions since September! Started Spiriva at that admission and not been in since! Spiriva not actually lisenced for my condition, is usually used for COPD, but I agreed to them trying me on it and seems to be helping. That and them agreeing I can have a new additional relief med for my home nebuliser seems to be keeping me out the hotel de la NHS! Hooray! Long may it continue! :)

Hi - I used to be on the old threads, but lost them!
Currently on steroids and antibiotics due to infection and worsening on asthma. Cold weather is not helping, or rather I seem to suffer more from the change of going between hot and cold right now.

Smile nothing too dramatic to report here, my peak flow is nearly back to its 250 max after a spell in the low 200s. The recent colder weather has made me wheeze a little. i probably need to have a flu jab.

Another new to this thread. I was diagnosed aged 40, mild allergy induced asthma. I don't wheeze or have attacks but I cough. A lot. Viruses have always been the biggest trigger, a cold sets me back a couple of months at least.
I'm not feeling too good now but it's different. Chest feels tight and I am out of breath very easily.

Hello. I am quite a new mild asthmatic. The cold weather seemed to set me off last winter. I have been fine since mid June once all the cold weather disappeared but this past 10 days or so can really feel my breathlessness starting up so have this weekend dug out my preventer.
Looks like my asthma season is under way. Fingers crossed it won't be too bad.

My new nebuliser arrived today - it is a pocket one - very teeny and cute! this one if anyone interested. Know a few people at my asthma group have it and love it.

Will use my NHS one in house but this for taking everywhere.

Hello may I join in? I am a bit like you, timid, I don't get attacks, my breathing is just getting gradually worse. My p/f is about 250 normally, but around 200 when I have a cold (like now). I used to average about 270 but am clearly getting more short of breath over time. I have always had less puff than my peers, used to smoke but stopped more than 12 years ago. My lungs have not forgiven or forgotten Sad

Hello feeling much better on puke front - was just one night of spew!

Had to go to GP yesterday as was quite wheezey and pf was down at 300. (Best is 475) Chest sounded wheezey, so on pred :(

Had an argument with my pharmacist today about drugs i am on - apparently am on too many...er no! Just because it isn't the usual ones it doesn't mean I am wrong!

kiwi my asthma is totally period related! :) There are research journals to prove this is a real thing.

I went to the funeral yesterday of a young lady of 19 who had same resp consultant as me at hosp - she died waiting for a double lung transplant - very very sad.

Hi all. Just marking my place really. Hope you are all feeling ok.
I have had brittle asthma since a child and have been in and out if hospital since then. For a couple of years I even had to have a subcutaneous IV 24/7. Touch wood I haven't had an admission for over 18 months and i have cut back hugely on the medication.
My asthma always seemed to get worse around my period, has anyone else found that? ( I have a sneaky suspicion that I am a weirdo in this respect - and many others Wink).

I have a peculiar asthma, never have attacks as such but am just always a bit further along the breathlessness spectrum than I ought to be. I have been like this all my life and worse with colds, hayfever, etc.

It appears that as this has been untreated for most of my life (only treated for about 10 years and properly diagnosed for last 5) I now have some lung damage which is irreversible. It doesn't affect me at the moment although I use an inhaler every day but I just want to be careful so it doesn't affect me in later life

Have had my flu jab just in case.
Hope everybody keeps well this winter

I started with Asthma for the first time last winter at the grand old age of 40. The cold weather seemed to set it off.
I have not touched my brown inhaler since May and have been naively hoping I won't need it this year.
Am new to all this really.

I did actually have my flu jab in the end - phew! And feel a bit better this end I the day than I did this morning. Hopeful it's not going to be a full blown asthma episode but just fighting off a virus of some sort. Days like this make my asthma fraud complex worse than ever - very easy to tell myself I'm imagining 'funny sensations' or chest symptoms and that it can't possibly be asthma 'because that won't ever happen again, surely...?!?' Blush

Sorry you are poorly MPD, hope what ever it is yu get ontop of it quickly. I'm doing OK. Cough ( the sort that chokes you if you lie down) is a longstanding problem, but wheezing only mild. I tried giving up dairy and I was not sure it helped. PF down recently.
