Presumably you've either been in hospital or still are - the doctors will treat you for the clot and give you warfarin, which is fine to have while breastfeeding.

My family has Factor V Leiden thrombophilia, and my Dad has had 3 DVTs - none have killed him, because he goes to the doctor when he has symptoms and gets treated. Despite having had 3 DVTs and being nearly 80, he's still not permanently on warfarin (although some people would be).

My sister and I both had to have clexane injections throughout our pregnancies, and whenever I fly I have it as well; plus we cannot use the normal OCP but have to use progesterone-only pills (if we bother).

It's a nuisance and I expect that you would be recommended for testing for thrombophilia (a tendency to make blood clots) - if no one suggests this to you, then please ask your GP to get you tested. It will help you to know so you can limit any future risk.

I went into hospital with mine. Ds was bout 4 weeks old. Was given warfarin and kept in for 3 or 4 days iirc. Could still bfeed while on warfarin, but couldn't get any scans.

Hi what treatment are you on? I had a pulmonary embolism as a result of DVT.
You will be fine and very closely monitored I imagine.
As a result of mine I was first on warfarin then clexane through pregnancy. Now I have a baby aspirin each day for life. No other symptoms or side effects since.

Poor you, joanna0211, it sounds scary - last thing you need with a new lo.

Firstly, congratulations on the birth of your baby Smile

Secondly, I don't know anyone who has died of a dvt, but I have seen a few people on MN over the years who've had one, been treated, and been fine. But it is scary, obviously.

Have you tried running a search on old messages? I'd do one for you, but have dd2 shouting...worth a try though, because I definitely remember women with the same problem in the past.

Hope the doctors are reassuring you - I imagine you are on blood thinners, and once you're being treated your risks go way down (at least, they do with a stroke, so I imagine similarly for a clot).

Good luck, will check back later x
