Anybody been through this, or can offer some knowledge?-dh going for ultrasound tomorrow for enlarged testicle

My dh went to see his gp last monday (7th jan) due to an enlarged testicle that he said he has had for a couple of weeks previously. The gp referred him straightaway to a urologist as he couldn't say what it was, so 2 days later he received a letter to see the consultant for an appointment. He went to the appointment on Friday (11th jan) and the consultant said it was either a tumour or an infection. He organised an ultrasound for him which is tomorrow (Monday). They say if it is a tumour, it'll be taken out this week.
Hopefully it is an infection, but if its a tumour, would he have a biopsy at the same time as the op to see if the tumour is cancerous?
Dh says he has no pain in his scrotum area, just an aching when he is sat by his desk at work as there is not much 'room' in between his legs ,if you get my meaning, due to the enlarged testicle. I would have thought that if it was an infection, that there would be some sort of ' feeling', like, a throbbing or something.
He won't let me come to the scan with him as he says I'll be a PITA (charming ,I'm sure), so I am
going to be sat at work worrying as you can imagine. His scan isn't til 3.30 aaarrggghhh. Please advise, or help .

Update:

I got in touch with the urology nurse today to see what was happening as we hadn't heard anything from the oncologist, aaaand result:

Dh got a message from the oncology sec, and he has an appointment this Friday Smile

Just an update, still not heard anything from the oncologist after dh being referred. The nurse who was present at the consultation for the results told us to contact her if we had not heard anything by last Friday (8th) and she would chase it up, so dh has left a message on her answerphone. Hopefully won't be long.

Dh has now gone back to work, so normality is resuming. Not much of an update, but there you go, just felt it would have been rude to have left things hanging in the air since my last post Smile

Crushed just seen this thread.
DH had a seminoma in 1992 when he was 36.
He had his testicle removed and had a couple of weeks off work. He then had 3 weeks radiotherapy which he worked through.
He then had a bowel cancer at 50 and a small skin cancer at about 55.
His GP once said to him he didn't know many people who had had 3 cancers.
DH very well now at 57.
Fit. Slim (lucky sod). Plays 5a side football every week, and has done so for the last 35 years, only stopping for a few weeks after his cancer ops.
As someone else said, if you're going to get a testicular cancer seminoma is the one to get.
Sounds like your DH is like mine and takes it in his stride, or hides his feelings well to stop you worrying too much.
Best wishes for both of you.

Glad you now have some answers, crushed. It sounds as though he may need no further treatment, but he will probably be checked for the next 10 years or so.

My DH had the same and it was later found to have spread to a couple of lymph nodes...he had one dose of chemo, (then we went skiing!) then 3 weeks of radiotherapy. He was then checked for the next 10 years and finished observations last year with no further probs.

We have 2 children now as well so none of that had any lasting effect!

Keep up with the updates, thinking of you!

As from today aftermay, he drove home from the hospital lol, so no more passenger driver comments/criticisms directed at ME anymore....it's a good job, or else something would have happened to his other testicle if he'd have carried on Wink Wink Wink

Dh and I have been together nearly half our lives and have always supported each other, but its lovely of you to say so, thanks...well, thats until he gets into the passenger seat.......cue the psycho music Grin

I hope the treatment goes well. You sound like a very supportive wife to your DH. When can he drive?

Seminoma is definitely the 'best' one to have if you see what I mean...most treatable - my old boyfriend had that - he had a course of radiotherapy and that was that, all sorted. Sometimes not even the radiotherapy is needed.
Went on to have 2 kids with his new bit of stuff (bastard..........but that is another story.................)

Although easily cured, fingers crossed that CT scan is clear. Your DH - I like his attitude

Hi all, went to see consultant this afternoon and he said the tumour in dh's testicle was cancerous. He said he was confident they took it all out, but has referred dh to a cancer specialist as a precaution.

It was one of the most common types of cancer, seminoma, and as a few of you said, completely treatable, So should be hearing from the specialist soon.

Feeling upbeat, hopefully the end is somewhere near nigh.

And all dh could ask was...can I drive yet? MEN !! Smile

Hi, no results yet, scan went without any hitches, but no senior doc there to tell us anything, so none the wiser. I assume we'll get results for both biopsy and ct scan at the same time from the consultant. Just waiting for the call to arrange an appointment aarggh. I'm sure it won't be long .. meanwhile we're ok, making future plans. Will keep you updated Smile

Thanks aftermay, going to try to sleep in a while. Was awake all last night, but then so was poor dh who was slightly uncomfortable.

He is very happy at the moment as he is watching all his favourite programmes that contain cars, motorbikes, in fact anything that has wheels.....zzzzzzzz (boooooring, maybe the programmes wil send me to sleep? Ha ), but if he's happy, then so am I :)

Ah, poor man - at least us women don't have those problems.
The CT scan is to see if/where it has spread.
With my nephew, it was his GF who discovered it. The few lymph gland secondaries were quickly and easily destroyed with only 2 chemo injections
Good luck with the CT results
