Not cystitis, not thrush, Cytolytic Vaginosis?

I have been to the doctor a lot over the last four years with symptoms that present like cystitis and thrush, however urine test comes up clear and thrush treatments do not work. I noticed a pattern of bad diet (starchy, sugary foods) and recurrent episodes of this - a healthy diet and plenty of water clears it up within a few days, though I need to keep this up or it comes back.

In addition I noticed that the symptoms always start around ovulation and finish as soon as my period starts and google has thrown up Cytolytic Vaginosis which matches 100% my symptoms. Treatment also fits what I had worked out for myself - healthy diet with very little sugar and plenty of water. Doctor shrugged and said it could be and it was worth considering but she didn't know enough about it.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm just wondering how long I need to avoid cake and sugar for or whether (sob) I have to be healthy forever.

I’ve had cytolytic Vaginosis for over 2 years. I was over treated for chronic thrush. It’s actually been very manageable in the last 6-12 months. Watching my diet and douching regularly has helped and gradually it was getting better. Fast forward to me getting pregnant and now my symptoms have gotten worse. I’m only 5 weeks so I’m scared what the rest of the pregnancy is going to be like. Can anyone give me any reassurance that it won’t progressively get worse because I can deal with it how it is now but worried how bad it could get! My GP has said that I can use the douche but not all the way in and very gentle and that seems to be working well..

Maybe fetus is growing and pressuring your bladder. Heard that it is normal for pregnancy. Congratulations on your pregnancy btw. I am planning to conceive and glad to hear that you conceived with CV cause I was afraid that CV would make it impossible.

Okay thanks so much for your reply. They say there is a hormonal component with cv so the rise in hormones probably isn’t helping either but hopefully it doesn’t get worse if I keep it under control. And thank you! I was also so worried about not being able to conceive but I used baking soda before sex one or twice in my fertile window and also used pre seed and I fell pregnant on our second cycle.

Sorry if this is too much or a stupid question. Any CV sufferers have perceived rectal pain as well? My whole gential area aches and it feels like it affects farther back too.

Thanks

Hi, why do we need to avoid peppers for treating CV.

@JunoSospita

Just an update:

I am completely clear of this problem since August last year. I was diagnosed with IBS/Acid Reflux then and since I had a nasty reaction to the medication I was forced to control these conditions through my diet.

I cut out:

All fruit especially tomatoes and including peppers
All fruit juice
All alcohol
All sugar
Milk
Lots of red meat.

I did this for four months - eating salads, simple grains (couscous etc), veg and white meat/fish and then introduced small amounts of red meat, beer, peppers and sugar. I have been careful to keep myself hydrated too.

Not only is my IBS and reflux under control but I have had no real CV symptoms since then, just minor niggles if I eat too much sugar or let myself get too dehydrated. Nothing like the agony of CV at its height.

I have also lost a stone and three inches around my waist and stomach. I'm not bloated, sensitive to having my stomach touched, no longer suffer from crippling anxiety and depression.

Hi JunoSospita,

If you are still seeing this thread, can you please tell me why did you have to stop eating the peppers, as am assuming you meant bell peppers. Because I did a google search and bell pepper (capsicum) falls under low alkaline group of foods.

If Juno, isn’t reading this post, can anyone else please help me.

I have ended up with SIBO and CV (not tested but I know with symptoms) due to taking probiotics - I did a course of a Canesflor, vaginal probiotics, as suggested by my doctor and had also eaten some plain goat milk yogurt with live cultures.

Hi best place to go to get diagnosed is the sexual health clinic. They do a swob look under the microscope and can diagnose from that.

The only treatment for this is bicarbonate of soda baths. Twice a day. For a few weeks. Cut out alcohol, tomatoes and sugary food. Oh and use Sanex shower gel from now on and your partner.
