How to block porn on an android phone

I have just switched from apple to android and have a Samsung phone. I have never had this problem before! I was using my phone to look things up in an online dictionary for DD when we were doing homework and I got redirected to a porn site with really horrible photos right from the very first page. Can I stop this from happening? Thanks.

The site may well have had something lurking in it that caused the issue, a virus or some kind of malware thingy (not too sure how all that works though!)

It's wifi so I'll look into that, thanks. What I don't understand was I wasn't trying to look at that site - I was trying to look up something on a genuine dictionary site - does that sound like a virus, or can that happen?

Were you using wifi or mobile data? If it's wifi, you may be able to set parental controls on the router to restrict access to certain sites, there may be a similar function with mobile data though I'm not sure. If you google the phone you have there will be a user manual on line for it somewhere which may have further info on settings to adjust to restrict access to certain types of content.
