Digital camera with a viewfinder - or is that asking too much?

I have a hankering for a new camera after watching Rory Bremner taking photo's on his daytime programme .

DH agrees that we could do with one (old one is about 5 years old, a compact Kodak). But - he would like a viewfinder. And we are lost! Amazon has SOOO many we don't know where to start.

Any suggestions? We are clueless about photography so just need a point and shoot job. Budget of up to about £150ish

You'll find it hard to come across a point and shoot with a view finder these days. They tend to be reserved for the digital SLRs which are likely to be above your budget.

If you just need a point and shoot job, why is a viewfinder important? If the sun is shining, just cover the screen with your hand.

Depending on how it works, viewfinders may give a smaller crop than the recorded image. Or, if it's a separate optical viewfinder it's going to give you a different angle than the end result - as most digicams offer some level of zoom built in, a non-TTL (through the lens) viewfinder is useless 50% of the time.

Yep the former.

The camera we've got only has a screen which makes it difficult when the sun shines on it. Plus we're old fashioned and like the 'one squinty eye' thing!
