Dyslexia - Doing A levels - tips?

My dd does her homework but wrt doing anything else she really struggles to concentrate. Being on her computer and phone too much is an issue - with all teens it seems - but she sits down to do say an hour of studying and when we ask what she's done we'll get very vague answers. Any tips as to how to help her? She has moderate dyslexia. Thanks.

Get her to give you her phone when she’s studying?

To be fair I don’t think any teens are going to give their parents an enthusiastic reply re: what they’ve just studied! How are her most recent mock grades? If they were fine then I’d just leave her to it

Thanks Pottering. Yes, taking the phone away is an ongoing battle. Just wondered if there were other tips to aid concentration. Even without the tech she struggles to focus on the task in hand.

One of my DC was prone to being easily distracted but we focused on helping them acknowledge the key situations where it might be a problem (eg start of new task, change in task) and be on 'high alert' to that.

Rather than do parental policing, we encouraged them to set a specific 'nice' task or activity at the end of their scheduled work session as a bit of a reward/goal. We did not remove their phone but encouraged them to put it at the far side of the room (checking in the early days they had done that until such times as it became a habit).

If a work task did not require a tablet or laptop, then that was put away to leave a clear desk surface. Hope these suggestions help.

Maybe she needs a specific goal in mind, e.g. for my subject I'd say complete x number of past paper questions, rather than a time limit?

Actual targets of what to do probably depend on the subjects she's studying. Are you willing to share those?
