Sixth form subject not working out in school

Hey all, really need some advice although probably seems like a silly question....DS coming to the end of Year 12. He absolutely loves the subjects he chose but for one of them he hates the class! There's only 3 students and they seem to disagree on everything that happens there. Teacher makes everything worse by constantly disagreeing with what DS says and undermining what he believes in. His whole attitude has changed to the subject, gone from getting As and Bs to Ds. He refuses to let me speak to the school about it and would prefer to bunk off these classes. What do I do? Go over a 17 year old's head and speak to the school without his permission or let him carry on like this? Ive tried speaking with him but he doesn't listen. Dunno, will schools allow a student to keep doing a subject but not to attend the classes if we come up with a good enough reason? It's really upsetting him..and me so would love any ideas! Thanks

I would tell him you are speaking to school and deal with any resulting tantrums.
You have given him the chance to deal with it and missing the classes isnt a solution. Presumably he wants the A level?

Thanks Hoppinggreen! Yes you are right, I just needed to hear someone else say it too. He needs an ultimatum. Either he talks to the school or I do 😞

@Qmargaret Your DS sounds a bit difficult. No doubt the teacher is teaching the syllabus and not refereeing a discussion group. What your DS believes in is surely neither here nor there. Therefore DS seems very immature and doesn’t seem to understand the syllabus. Is this politics by any chance? DS needs to understand that beliefs are for outside the classroom, whatever the subject. Not going is another sign of immaturity. Maybe he could continue with 2 A levels and do a single one in a further year of education?

What subject is this, OP?

My DCs always had 2 teachers for each A level subject, and at least one changed for Yr13.

That said, your DS needs to learn that not everyone will share his views, and that's what makes for a good discussion.
However, whatever his views, he has to learn what the syllabus requires. Sounds as though he needs to grow up a bit.

Thanks everyone for posting but as far as I'm concerned I've received the answer I need so I'm not posting any more on the subject 😊
