I don't know what todo next, he is 11 months old, breast fed until 7mnths the aptimal, then soya as we then thought he had a lactos intolarance. Now finally im trying cows milk, I cook all his meals via Annabel Karmel, weve been to Dr, HVisitor, Craniosacral therapy, reiki, you name it!! I now am sooo upset he is in so much discomfort... Any suggestions please?...

What is his fluid intake like? DD has bad constipation due to either not drinking enough during the day, eating all the foods that make her constipated e.g bananas etc and also putting off doing poo's because a: they hurt or b: she is busy playing with toys. She has been on lots of different prescriptions and even has supositries (sp?) for emergencys. It has got better since I have started potty training her as the doctor suggested putting her on the potty everytime she has eaten because eating food helps you to open your bowels although I think you will find that difficult for an eleven month old to do! Could you possibly try supositries to help move the obstruction and then see if it gets slightly better that way?
BTW DD's poo's are still constipated but she is no longer in pain so we are hoping it will get better by itself with hopefully an imporved diet.

my dr said to come off of the soya milk, well he was on silica then opium (homeopathic tabs) from dr and soya then lactolus so we never knew which one was gonna work.. turned out the only thing dr is keeping going is the lacto.. but yeah gonna go to dr again and get another referral, last ped. said he was ok and "some babies are just well constipated" we even took pictures of his amazingly long and hugh poos as i felt the dr's all thought i was a mad obsessive mother but that never worked!

knew what u ment re bananas its ok.. although i always thought that they made the matter worse until i read annabel karmel book and it mentions banana and prune fool recipe for constipation (tried and tested not for ds)..
Also cooked 4 oz rhubarb that did the trick and was ok for 4 weeks aaaa that was an amazing month..but back to normal constipated again..once again tried since then - not working now

Maybe he has other food allergies, gluten etc, which is making him constipated. Get your GP to refer him to paediatrician. Insist on it. They do say that you might have to introduce a food to a child up to 17 times before they accept it. One other option could be to exclude all foods except his soya milk and reintroduce things slowly.

ds loves weetabix but am now thinking that because he is not drinking enough the fibre is making it worse..don't know..

just to clarify - bananas make constipation worse not the dairy allergy worse!

Report
vickitiredmum · 18/08/2005 22:33

yep - agree with the pears and raisins! my DD has had dairy allergy - would steer well clear for as long as possible. Also avoid bananas. Can make it worse apparently. Weetabix also seemed to help.
