I've ordered a panasonic as a treat, it makes jam as well rustic and sour dough loaves. This is new territory as the old machine could get as far as a French loaf.

Appart from a white loaf I'm a bit clueless so any tips, ideas a recipe book recommendations would be great.

Loads of recipes with the machine. I mostly make a white loaf & a wholemeal loaf, though!

Best tip I had was to lift the lid when it had mixed a bit and give it a quick prod. It should look like dough (who knew!) - mine was clearly too wet and I switched to using less than the recommended amount of water and it was much better. Just don't lift the lid later while it's cooking.

I started off following the bread maker recipes in the booklet that came with my bread maker. Now I mostly use it for doughs actually! Pizza dough, rolls, I've done pannetone, baguette dough, sourdough as well. I have a book called Modern Baker for sourdough which has worked brilliantly for me and so much less waste getting the sourdough starter going as you only add a tiny teaspoon of flour each day to start with. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01ISHDHY2/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

Ah, thank you. My last BM was second hand so it arrived just as it was. I will work my way through the book.

My Panasonic came with recipes - they all work beautifully. I'd try those first before buying another book as they will have been designed specifically for your bread maker.
