I'm thinking about investing in a burger press.....is it one of those gadgets I'm likely to use once or do you regularly use yours?

And, if you have a nice burger recipe....please share so I can try it out

tyvm Smile

(am off to bed but will pop back in the morning to see if anyone replies Smile )

I oven bake mine for 20 mins so they can't fall apart

One egg
Lean mince
Minced in blender onion and breadcrumbs
Herbs or chilli powder
Tomato paste

And my magic ingredient.. Pesto paste .. Makes them really juicy

If you pastes use about half an egg otherwise it goes slimy

these are brill, thank you all!! am going to transfer recipes to my stripey book and work my way through them.

Will try them without the burger press first & if I struggle I'll look at getting a cheap burger press...

And no oil in the cooking pan! With no oil they taste like they've been properly barbecued.

Have never even heard of a burger press! Sounds like one of those "great ideas" that end up taking too much space at the back of a cupboard. I just roll balls and flatten them.

I use mince, chopped onion, herbs or curry mix sometimes (chopped fresh coriander is particularly good) an egg and my top tip is crushed Dutch crisp bread rather than bread crumbs as they are easier to crush. Lovely stuff. I make a double batch and freeze half.

I've used loads of different combinations but my very favourite is the most simple:
1 onion, whizzed in the processor. Add a pack of any mince and 2 oxo cubes. Whizz again until just combined. Shape into burgers and grill them.

The burger press is neither here nor there. I have a plastic Tupperware thing that's about 30 years old but it's just as easy without.

Ohyou, I take a handful of meat and form it into a sort of cup shape in the hollow of my palm, then take a bit of grated cheese and plonk it in the hollow. Then another bit of meat to form a lid. I then mould the burger into a burger shape making sure there are no cracks or gaps.

Too much cheese and it'll ooze. Same if it isn't sealed well.

Never heard of a burger press before! We love making burgers though.

Do try Jamie Oliver's Botham Burgers (but as louisiana rightly said, make them loads smaller) - they are the dog's nuts.

we had tuna burgers for tea: 300 g tinned tuna, 100 g breadcrumbs, 1 egg, 2 tsp mustard, zest of 1 lemon. fridge for 15 mins, squish them into patties (by hand btw Grin) and fry in a little oil til golden. serve on a tomato, avocado, red onion salad - yum! even the toddler was stuffing his face!

I use jacob's cream crackers crushed in mine, they seem to hold much better than bread and are already dry. Agree that there's no real need for burger press unless you are realy concerned about presentation.

Wouldn't bother with the press.

My 2 fav recipes are mince diced red onion breadcrumbs and crumbled up feta. Bit of beaten egg to bind.

Or some lightly toasted cumin seeds mince breadcrumbs ,paprika, grama masala, turmeric, salt and garlic, again egg to bind. We call those ones curry burgers.

Always use my Lakeland burger press. Use mince with handful of porridge oats thrown in to keep moist as DH gluten free. No egg required! Just herbs and spices. Or grated veg if for DS to hide some vitamins Grin

I ground up 500g of stewing steak, 500g of brisket and gently formed them into patties - seasoned the surface of the burger and fried on the griddle, used our new Thermapen to determine minimum safe temp - so they were still perfectly pink in the middle - dh said they were the best burgers he had ever tasted, good flavour with a light texture.

How do you all get yours to stick together?

From reading, none of you do anything different to the things I've tried, but mine just fall apart and I end up grilling mince Grin

How do you do it?

Let them cook and form a nice brown crust before turning them. Some people I know - can't stop prodding and moving food around - it really messes the food up.

make my own burgers, no burger press here.
in the food processor I chop one onion, one slice of bread, spices (whatever I fancy that day) a slice of cheese.
mix with 500g of mince (whatever we got a the supermarket).
no egg
mix well and shape and fry or bake.
