Fed up of being fat. Help and a good kick up the arse needed!

I am fat, in the morbidly obese way. I binge eat, mostly on chocolate or sweet things, though I have been known to do savoury foods.
I come from a fat family, though my sister lost all her weight when she went to uni.
My husband is overweight (I don't consider him to be at a dangerous level) as are his parents and siblings (all boys and built like brick sh*t houses).
It seems that all of them have decided to diet at the exact same time (I kid you not)
DH has lost a stone in a month doing the fasting diet, and I am proud of him. He was unhappy he did something about it, though I like him being a 'bigger' man, I support him in his choices.
DM & DS have both lost well over a stone using weight watchers, and now my dad has joined in.
DH's brothers have taken up cycling and are doing well on it.
NOW I know I need to lose weight, not only to be healthy, but because I am feeling rubbish about myself. Which hasn't happened before, despite being fat I've always felt comfortable in the skin I am in. Though that has changed and I don't know if it is because DD is fairly new (8Months) or because I'm beginning to realise that I am with DH for life and no other man will look at me (though why they would want to is beyond me)
So there is a big part of me that wants to, but with everyone round me going 'YES YES, YOU SHOULD DO IT" I seem to be digging my heels in and going 'Nopey nope nope.' Even my MIL seems to have joined in.
Someone tell me to shut up and get one with it please.

Loubou225 - Can I ask, what is the one on one off diet? Sounds great as you say DH lost lots of weight!

Good luck with your weight loss, I think as one poster has said, and I can't talk, as I say it/think it, then don't do it.
But regular changes, like just swapping things in meals and snacks will help, I think with all the light versions of things, there has to be some filling satiating foods too, otherwise where everything is low fat etc, that is where wanting other things can come in.

I definantly agree with the walking thing though, I used to do a lot more and it helped.

Sorry I am here, been a mental week. I have started, but it was on Tuesday. I have found it harder being at home to stay in control, especially as my husband went and bought nearly £10 worth of chocolate (he sooo supportive)

I've tried to get out as much as I can, and have managed to stay away from from Maccy D's

Hope your week has gone well xxx

I can seriously recommend //www.myfitnesspal.com. Get it on your phone. It will work out the calories that you can consume to get to the weight that you want and then simply works as a sophistocated food diary. You basically count EVERYTHING that you eat in a day. Stick to the calorie limit and you will see the weight fall off.

Its free. You don't need to be weighed in public and its really easy to understand.

I lost 2 stone with what seemed like little effort. I've kept it off for a year. I feel like it really helped me to make lasting changes to my lifestyle and diet.

Are you ready ? Do you know what changes you are going to make ?

I know what I need to do to lose weight and need to stop bingeing. I don't need diet advice I need advice and support in sticking to the diet I choose.

I feel psychologically ready for it. Leave old bad habits behind. Healthy diet. No binge eating. Starting exercise and enjoying it.

Go to your GP, most will refer you to Weight Watchers or something similar for free. Also they may recommend 'exercise on prescription', basically they pay for you to go to the gym or swimming etc. it's cheaper for the NHS to pay for this than the health complications that come from obesity.

Also if you binge, tell your GP as they might refer you to a counsellor or something to help you understand the reasons why.

I agree with citronella - Think of it as a life change rather than a diet.

Monday is a good start as I will be at work so it will distract me from the lack of eating in my life and also I have my sisters 3 children for a sleep over tonight and all day tomorrow, so chocolate will be needed to get me through as DH is working tomorrow.

Louboo why wait until Monday, you can start making some changes and get a head start.

Slimming World has a free 7 day menue here and I think they have a voucher this week in Woman magazine, but it may be another magazine. Worth checking out though Smile.

I'd recommend the 5:2 diet too. I've been on it for over 2 weeks - it is the easiest diet to stick to I've ever known - because you are only on the diet 2 days a week, the rest of the week you forget about it.

Hello, welcome to my world. I am overweight too and for me, even going to the gym three times a week didn't help. I only lost some weight in Ramadan where I wasn't eating from dusk till dawn. This forced me not to eat during the day despite the large meal at night. Ramadan is over now and I have managed to keep teh weight down by only one thing: portion control or having a very light lunch. Before I was eating toast, cereal and tea for breakfast, a proper lunch, tea and biscuits for teatime, and a heart curry in the evening. Nothing has changed apart from the lighter lunch and taking little one to playgroup which is a 5 minute uphill walk. So for me walking more, eating slightly less did the trick. I wish you all the best and know you can do it. GO GIRL!

Boot camp saved me - I'd really recommend, if like me you suffer from lack of self motivation. If you can find one near you that you can get to... Food v important but you will need to get active too.
I also stuck to a strict food plan when I lost my fat - I was able to enjoy my meals but did not have any sugar, caffeine, wheat, diary (apart from milk) or booze. Once a week I was allowed one or two 'treats' from this list but a glass of wine for example - not a bottle! The other thing is to only eat food with one ingredient; the idea of this rule is to stop you eating anything processed or 'ready'. Of course, you can mix ingredients yourself, but this just refers to how you buy it IYKWIM. So pizza and pasta was out, but could do risotto and other rice dishes. I'm not so strict with myself anymore but it's still a good reference point and all achievable as you can still eat rice, potatoes, plenty of sald and veg, and you won't feel like you're actually starving yourself! Make sure you have a good healthy breakfast (porridge, banana?) to set yourself up for the day. Get organised so you have healthy snacks within reach and arent tempted to binge. Pay at pump for petrol if possible so you dont go in and get confronted by chocolate etc. maybe get supermarket deliveries too? Say to yourself before you go to the shop that you will not buy crap and likewise with work - remind yourself on the way in of your goal and don't have your head turned with biscuits/cakes brought in by colleagues. Not sure if any of this relevant to you but these are all pitfalls that I find and are best thought about in advance so avoided. Do it for your daughter and YOU. She will learn from your habits (good or bad) as well. Hope I've helped. Good luck!!!

Hmm I want to believe that, but my own family seems to take the piss out of me more than anything. I always seem to be the stupid one. Real God honest support just doesn't seem to be there.
