Talk to me about mirena removal please!

DH & I are planning on trying for DC2 at the beginning of next year. I currently have a mirena in situ for nearly 2 years; with no periods in that time. I am dreading having it removed - not least because of the procedure itself; but also because of the potential aftermath! What were your experiences of having it removed? Did you have the period from hell straight away? I am excited to start trying but need to get over this hurdle first.

It is a total piece of cake. I was very nervous as I found insertion pretty horrible. Counted to three and it was out.

But of light bleeding but absolutely fine. Also have lists bit of weightSmile

My period was just the same as normal, but it has taken us 2 and a half years to conceive.

So glad to hear you all had no problems conceiving after removal. I'm hoping for a removal in December followed by a BFP late Jan. Had no issues with DC1 (first time!) so fingers crossed no.2 is the samez

Thanks for your responses. I have looked on YouTube for videos of removal and it doesn't look as bad as I think it will be. Just worried about the bleeding afterwards.

Had no issue. Mine was a refit and I didn't even notice that she'd taken it out - only felt the new one go in.

The actual removal was quick and painless I didn't feel a thing.
However I did have the worse period of my life which started the next day, it was very heavy with sudden flooding which would fill a pad very quickly so make sure you have plenty with you. I also had massive clots, one was so big I could actually feel it coming out if my body, it was quite scary especially as I had no idea to expect that.
I think the information provided about the coil is very poor, I did not know I would bleed for months non stop when it was put in and I was not warned what to expect when it was removed.
On the positive side the super heavy period was only a few days long, I conceived just over a week after having the coil removed and I have my 20 week scan tomorrow Grin (took over 6 months to conceive dc1 after coming off the pill)
