When its more than a hobby fitting in homework

Hello, I am trying to find out the average amount of homework a child is expected to complete in each year of secondary, if that's possible.
My older two were numpties and didn't really do homework and may have problems if dd goes to secondary, currently H.ed

How do your dc manage the workload if they have an activity/activities that consume much of their out of school time? Also more importantly, if your child had a spld and struggled, perhaps needed longer to complete work, not an academic. Do you think your child would cope with activity and homework

The reason I ask is although my dd is only 9/y5 she is showing an interest in secondary school and I would never stop her if this is what she wanted.
However, I want her to make an informed decision that she wouldn't immediately regret. I know we have plenty of time, but she seems to be talking about it quite a lot considering its so far away.

I think schools vary massively in the amount of homework set, as well as in how long they estimate it will take. DS is year 8 and is supposed to get an hour and a half a night. Mostly this is an underestimate on the time he takes, but lots of the kids get away with doing some of on the way home, some in form period, some at the weekend and to arrange to do more on nights where they haven't got extra clubs.

Are you thinking Chets? Where else? They occasionally do joint productions with dds school (they probidecthecirchestra, school provides the dancers)

Hello, yes Chets and we were also thinking RNCM juniors on saturday. Of course doesn't solve the school problem but will make her decide between dancing and music, which is rapidly proving a problem with clashes. Of course there's the issue of having to pay for lessons missed and it seems to be increasing.
Soorry, not trying to imply that I think she will necessarily easily gain a place, just work towards the audition standard.
