Hi popsy thanks for the quick response.
It must have been the practice papers but ds said one of the kids asked miss if those were the sats and she sopposedly said yes but yer know what kids are like!! Chinese whispers I think.

charlize....
they dont get back in to school til 1st or 2nd week in july

not possible i am afraid....

and they have to post them off within 48 hours of the test being taken,,,,,

not sure what it is that your ds saw...could it have been a practice paper he did?

popsy have you had any of the sats back yet.
my ds says he thinks his teacher has the maths papers on her desk???
Does this mean she has gotten them back already or not posted them yet?

A friend of dd1's turned over 2 pages together when she did the grammar exam and missed them out completely. Still passed though!

dogwalker, today's was the calculator exam I think so should have been OK. ds2 was playing in a football tournament after school and didn't come home until after 7, I forgot to ask him what he thought and now he's gone out for some chips (Friday night treat).

I remember one exam were ds was certain he had 100 % says he checked all the answers 3 times.
Turns out he didn't know there was a whole page of questions on the back page. He had just left them out.

Same here My ds is pretty certain he has them all correct , says he done the test twice, But he too is prone to careless mistakes, so we will see. Glad its all over any way. When do we get the results Popsycal??

She does dogwalker but like I said in an earlier post - she does make careless mistakes too so there's no saying she's got it all right!

Your child must find maths easy jampot- how lucky! Mine said fairly easy but I think it was just relief that the week is over.

Verdict from my dd - easy! Looking forward to next week when 3/4 of the class go on a residential trip and the remainder get to chill with the infants!

Any news on today's (thankfully last) test?

My ds seemed happy enough, said there were some hard questions again but that he had a go.

For everyone that's interested - here is the transcript:

Me: I just wondered if you did put X in for level 6's this week as last time we spoke you were hoping to.

Her: Well, what happened on MOnday is the Head and I opened the box of questions and there were no level 6 papers in the box. They can't get a level 6 anymore, this is the first year they've done this. The highest they can get is a 5.

Me: Well that's still good isn't it?

Her: Oh yes, but the more able will be going on the QCA website Gifted and Talented.

Me: Okay thanks. Have a good day.

Tiger moth, don't worry too much about the 11+.
I think the style is totally different to the sats and much less likely to catch them out.
For instance theres no arguing with a VB test But in the sAts you can get some bummer Topics to write for in english, no wonder there imagination goes blank.
My ds hates newspaper articles or designing leaflets or postcards... all the stuff that can crop up in sats but tell him to write a straightforward story in his own style and he gets top marks!
Luckily 11+ usually cut to the chase and ask for a story, and give a choice of titles.
So try and concentrate on story writing and comprehension for 11+ revision.

We had a tutor for 11+ like yourself and my ds went from good at english to topping the 200 kids who sat the exam.

Sadly I don't think he will have faired as well in english sats as the debate style doesn't suit him.

by the way, our school is holding its music festival on Friday, so all the Year 6s in the choir or band have had to do extra practice this week - what mad timing!

I think quite a few people will be interested to know the teacher's reaction to your question, jampot - I've getting fascinated with this little saga (why? I ask myself - still that's mumsnet for you).

This thread worries me much - I didn't realise Year 6 people looked back on each question like this. I know I will be doing it next year, won't be able to help it.

Just been talking to my son. He messed up his English test paper today. Had to write a newspaper article on something do to with a space ship. Teacher told the class to let their imaginations run riot. For some reason this froze my son's brain and he only squeezed out a few sentences in 40 minutes. He should have written at a good one and a half sides of A4. The teacher was a bit cross apparently - English is meant to be his best subject. He told he his imagination just wasn't working. Cute but not a good answer. He has to do the test paper again tomorrow.

I'm veering between being understanding (realise he is under pressure) and cross (as he is good at English). I've been reassuring him SATS are for the school's benefit really, but also telling him he must not do this for the 11+ tests as he will only get one shot at them. Mixed messages or what!

I too Am shocked that the kids would be doing practice papers this week. Ds teacher thinks the exams they have got are stressful enough and they have been doing arty stuff in the afternoons which they all love.
jampot i doubt the teacher would hold it against your dd getting one wrong or tgat she would give the extra task to the other 2 pupils based on one practice test.

more likely she already had in mind who would need extra tasks.
did this teacher mark all 20-30 satsexams after they had done them?
She must be a glutton for punishment.
