Wandsworth Primary school - unauthorised leave for a holiday in term-time?

Hi there.

Does anyone know Wandsworth Council's policy on this? We would like to book a holiday for two weeks, one of which will be in term-time. This means DD (Yr 1) will miss 5 days of school.

I have just heard that Wandsworth council will fine each parent £60 a day for each day unauthorised leave! Is this correct?? If so, will this also apply to DS who is in the nursery at the school?

We were hoping to book a holiday in the New Year sales, but this may scupper our plans.... The school is closed, so can't ask them

Thanks very much!

great. thanks! I did ask the Headmaster before we broke up about the 'implications' of unauthorised leave - he didn't mention a fine! It's good to know if wouldn't be per parent per day! However, I wonder if Wandsworth are stricter than other local authorities.......??

testbunny - if your child's attendance is otherwise good then you'll probably be OK but it does depend on your local authority/school policy. Some schools will issue a penalty warning notice covering the period of holiday which means you could be liable for a fine. Usually the fine is £60 per parent per period of leave (not per day for 5 consecutive days).

ds isn't of compulsory school age so the law doesn't apply to him.

Ds wouldn't be fined as
