Did anybody receive a shielding letter today?

Somebody on twitter said they received a shielding letter today signed by the government saying they should shield until July 2021.

Did anybody here receive one? There's been no announcement about shielding. This is someone in England.

It's very worrying and tells me the government are expecting a really bad Winter and Spring Sad

I had one yesterday (am in Wales) -it basically says you are on the shielding list, rates are going up so here is some advice to keep you safe

You do not need to re-start shielding but take extra care and the priority access to supermarket homedelivery remains in place

So, yes, it's a deliberate attempt to mislead.

Aha, Got it!! It's not the initial shielding letter, it's the second letter, which went out on 22nd June

MereDintofPandiculation · 29/10/2020 22:43

It mentions loss of taste as a symptom. It wasn't till weeks after the original letter went out that they added loss of taste as a key symptom.

DH got one of the original letters. They came from the NHS, not from the Government

This seems to show the original letter.

But just because it's not the original letter doesn't mean it's genuine. Both Matt Hancock's and Robert Jenrick's signatures can be found by googling and could be cut and pasted.

No, it's exactly the same as the one I got back in June - here.

It’s a load of rubbish. You’re very gullible OP. Keep reading further down he says the Postman said it was an Emergency Delivery 😂🙄🙄

ChaChaCha2012 - 119 has been around since the letters went out in London. Don't know where you are but 119 started in May here which is when letters were still going out (as they changed the categories for many health conditions).

I have been getting the Iceland priority emails for at least the last couple of months. I only signed up just before shielding stopped.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 29/10/2020 19:50

I also had an e-mail from Iceland about priority deliveries again - that stopped back in August when the shielding stopped. It looks like the government or whomever, asked supermarkets to reinstate this.

My child got a letter today because she had been shielding. It basically says. You were shielding as bery high risk and although we arent asking you shield at this time we want to remind you of the risks and ask that you are as careful as possible

Also his pinned tweet is "I have refused an offer of £767,000 plus expenses from the wife of a current senior Tory cabinet minister that made a viscous attempt to attack myself & my family"

I would say it's a fake account, scare mongering attempt etc.

@HotToCold Yes in the comments on the tweet thread.

Nah, just read - he's near me - this is the original letter. Wording is exactly the same.

Report
TheGoWorm · 29/10/2020 19:07

does the first page have the person's condition and personal details on it?

No conditions on mine, and easy to blank out any other information.

nicerbeing · 29/10/2020 19:06

And the reason they are not putting anyone into shielding but telling them to take care is purely financial.

Report
TheGoWorm · 29/10/2020 19:06

The comments also say by the poster that the postman delivered it as an "Emergency Delivery".

There is no such delivery scheme. Postmen are not going to be out to the two millionish people who had to shield (plus all the others who they now believe are high risk with one off deliveries).

Interesting he doesn't post the first page of the letter with the date of when the letter was written attached.

I call BS.

I don't believe this. I had a letter saying that this had been sent to all people previously asked to shield, saying that the government were NOT asking people to shield again but that we should take care.

I don't mind posting the letter here .

Report
nicerbeing · 29/10/2020 18:55

Nobody is being told to shield again, the government don't want to stump up the money for it.

Did the original shielding letter mention loss of smell or taste as a symptom?

Don't you think its suspicious he hasn't posted the first page with the postage date on?

Someone has posted to say there was a second letter sent out when shielding was extended. That makes more sense.

Report
ChaChaCha2012 · 29/10/2020 18:35

It's not one of the original letters because it refers to the 119 service, which hadn't launched when the letters were sent out. Also the testing symptoms didn't include loss of smell at the beginning.

I don't know whether he has received it today, but it's not one of the originals.

(It's not a Russian troll either, his English is too natural, and he actually converses with people.)
