Back to work, don't feel safe, risk assessment

Back2WorkForMe · 31/05/2020 11:44

We have been working from home and going into the office on a rota basis, so only minimal people in the office at one time so we are able to social distance.

Anyway, manager has said we are all back in next week. When we are all in there are 15 people packed into our office. We are squashed and there is no way a safe distance between us. We are facing each other. If who I am facing coughs or sneezes it will be on to me.

What can I do about this, I don't feel safe but don't want to make a big fuss about it Sadany advice?
@BeltaneBride are you kidding? It's the public sector who didn't have any option of furlough, whilst the private sector have latterly taken a 3 month holiday (my husband included). We also do fairly similar jobs - he still got paid more than me when being paid 80% than I did for working 100%.

What a ridiculous statement.
Amen to that!

I was asked to return. No problem doing so. The risk assessment was included in the email except did not mention the shared kitchen and bathrooms. I pointed this out and got an angry email back that biss was dissatisfied with my negative response.

Gosh, the brits really do loathe one another don’t they?

The penny never drops, does it - a healthy respectful workplace creates healthy respectful employees. People who are treated well tend to be more productive, able to make confident delicious and learn faster.

The ‘let’s punish ourselves and others into a hole’ mentality of brits is embarrassing.
A previous poster was right, it really is a race to the bottom, and all that lies there is resentment and discontent.

I also don't get why you wouldn't just ask your manager or raise your concerns with them?

Perhaps you should join Boris's medical advisers? I hear he needs a few replacement 'yes men/women'.

Or perhaps you would like to join the virus test-and-trace teams? It sounds like they could do with your help.

I'd advise you don't go to Korea though as it might spoil your false sense of security.

Enlightened? I don't think so.

Very concerned here too. Even though it's a secondary, our school isn't prepared at all.

A second spike is inevitable when everyone goes back.

Boris and his Cabinet have are showing themselves to be completely incompetent in the handling of the virus.

Need to get back to normal I wonder how much if this fear is genuine?

Also I'd love to get back into my workplace and for DS to go to nursery (even though we're a vulnerable household) but my work place is closed and probably won't be open until July/August.
So I continue to wfh, pregnant, sitting on a spare bed working getting back ache (in welfare btw, so I'm busy)

Sick of the way the public sector are painted. I was in the private sector for years, got a huge bonus every year and didn't work any harder than I do now for less money. Silly me taking a less well paid job thinking I was making a difference.

@Pacmanitee I have been working the whole time also, albeit from home. But I still haven't been "getting on with real life" a lot has changed and adjustments made. @Pacmanitee you sound like one of them, who are jealous of people who were furloughed Wink

Says it all. Meanwhile the private escort gets back to work to pay taxes to keep the public sector 'safe' at home.
Off to the beach, are you?

I'm public sector, been working all of my hours from home whilst caring for my small child as I'm not eligible for furlough. Biscuit

I think the approach you need to take is asking why you can't carry on as you were, on a rota with a mix of working in the office & at home, if it was working before why the sudden need to change?

@imwatchinyou I guess it's just hard to comprehend that people need a handhold for everything, surely the first thing anyone would do would be to speak to your manager rather than come on a messageboard and ask a load of random people to point out the glaringly obvious.

everyone else isn't "getting on with real life" and if you are then you have not been following the rules.

Plenty of people have been working throughout outside of the time.

Probably half travel by public transport. I would be happy for them to WFH and I can work in office as I drive, and if they WFH the office would be okay with not as many as us in.

Also public sector, I'd be surprised if we're back to the office before the end of the year - certainly not full time. Although we work flexibly anyway.

They've opened one of our offices for 15% occupancy for those who are finding it difficult to WFH, you have to 'book a desk'.

How does everyone travel to the office? Part of our issue in getting people back is that we're in a city centre so 90% of people come by public transport.

If you want to be 'safe' then d9n't get out of bed in the morning. But equally do not expect to be paid. Everyone else is getting on with real life, and life has never been 'safe'.

I absolutely want to go back to work, but only when it is safe. I am a key worker, my DC have got a place at school, but as I have been WFH they have been at home with me - It would be much easier for me to work in the workplace and not from home and take dc to school.

Husband has worked all this time as a signaller, 10 people in an dark room with no ventilation. All have been ok.

If you can work from home then the advice it that you should continue to do so. If not, and you feel it is not safe in the workplace, I would raise concerns with line manager and take it from there.

@Pacmanitee op asked for advice, how would they expect 'us' to do itHmmHmm

I think this is unaccepatable TBH .Maybe ask to look at their risk assessment ? can you continue to work from home ? Seems rather strange to me
