Anyone else NOT enjoy going outside for a walk

I'm not a very outdoorsy person, I could happily stay in all week.

So many people seem to say that they can't wait to go for a walk in the park today or just take a random stroll because the weather is nice.

Am I the only one who hates going for walks? It seems that since lockdown more and more people are going for walks (I suppose because they didnt have much choice). Even with this as an option, I'm not enjoying it. Feels pointless just walking for the sake of it.

I wish I enjoyed it more and could go out every day, I feel a bit like the odd one out when people ask if i've gone for a walk today.

I can understand people not wanting to walk if they don't have a nice area to walk in. I can't understand people not needing/wanting to exercise though, if you can do that at home or in the garden, fair enough.

I think it is extroverts that are desperate to go out for a walk. Whereas I am borderline extrovert and have never been heavily into the fresh air and am happy to stay that way.

At the first sign of summer I do enjoy a few relaxing sits on my reclining chair in the garden for a few afternoons after our long English winters but after a few afternoons I am ready to get on and catch up with spring cleaning and list plus work plus my teenage son. Plenty to do and never bored.

I work at home as a rule anyway so have learned to become accustomed to a total lack of fresh air and hermit living lol. I am very at home with my own company. It is just my teenage boy I take exception to sometimes at the moment! Although he can swing from endearing to a monster in a mere blink of an eye lol.

Yep. I haven’t been out since Sunday. I don’t NEED to go out and I’m happy in the house. Even in normal times, I’m just not the type to want to go out.

My DH on the other hand has to leave the house everyday. He’ll go out 2/3 times a day, takes the kids to the park, goes to the shops, then goes again for a walk. He is a walker and is hating being stuck at home.

I love walking, there are beautiful walks where I live. I have 2 dogs, so out at 6.30 every morning for an hours walk and don’t see a soul. I also have a horse on 40 acres, it’s a good 20 minute walk bringing him in and turning him out as he is always the furthest away. I would hate walking round London though,
without a purpose. I love London, walking to a theatre or restaurant but with everything shut I would hate it.

I have to go for a walk most days because I start to get depressed if I stay inside.
But aimless walking is boring and pointless, yes.
Luckily I work 2 days a week, so I walk there, and then to the supermarket twice a week. . (I don't drive so I can't do a big shop weekly)

I think it depends on where you live. I live on the edge of a wood and love walking through it. The walk is interesting, I see horse riders most days and like to have a nose at the progress of renovations on our local pub. Plus I have my 7 month old with me who is really interested in everything. I feel very lucky to live where we are atm.

It makes me happy to read this. I hate walking for no reason. Walking is to get you from A to B. It’s causing arguments in my house as my OH thinks going for a walk is the panacea for all ills. Feeling tired - go for a walk, sad that you can’t see your parents - go for a walk, hay fever bothering you - go for a walk, complex c-section wound painful - go for a walk! It’s driving me bonkers, especially as we don’t have a garden so I can’t sit in the garden to get my outdoor time. It’s also too hot and hilly where I live to walk comfortably especially pushing a pram

I only like walking as I live in the countryside with public footpaths right by my door that head through some really pretty places. Plus the weather has been nice and it's dry underfoot. If it had been raining for weeks or if I lived in a city I wouldn't be so enthusiastic

I don't particularly enjoy going for walks but staying at home isn't enough to tire the toddler out, even if we stay in the garden all afternoon or try to be physical in the house. It breaks up the day a bit for us and when the weather isn't so nice I'd rather walk than stand around in the garden!

I love walking and often do walking marathons but I hate walking with the kids and being a single mum I’m always having to walk with them. All they do is bloody moan, whinge and drag their feet. It’s no fun at all. What makes it worse is they aren’t even little they are 9,12 and 15.

I go out every day. I can't understand how you can stay in. It's so weird to me.

I enjoy walking if I'm going somewhere fun, but for the sake of it is boring as hell. I'm so bored of my local park. I miss walking through London to a gig/cinema/pub.

We are very much the same, we all love being indoors and often forget to leave the house for days at a time. Pre-lockdown I loved going for a walk at weekends - somewhere green and quiet, but walking the streets with so many people out and about is not fun.

It depends on how you are getting your exercise and vitamin D.
I hate our endlessly boring walks around our town (the empty business park again, yay Hmm) but it's better than getting ill. I get around 16k steps a day.

@museumum
My house is set over 3 floors and is also a floor above ground level. So going up and down to the garden, going around doing housework etc actually clocks up more steps, stretches etc than you might think. It’s one of the reasons I wouldn’t have a cleaner. Housework is actually good exercise. I don’t really see the logic in paying a cleaner so I can spend more money going to a gym, when I can get exercise indoors for free!

I havent been out for a walk in weeks. Too many people about for my liking and I hate walking just for the sake of walking. I could easily spend weeks inside.

I love going for walks. I'm lucky to live near green open space and a beautiful park, but I like walking just about anywhere, especially if I've got good company.

I've always loved walking for pleasure it's not something that's new during lockdown. I've got very fond memories of walking with my mum during my teens, my first boyfriend and I would walk for miles and miles on Summer evenings just chatting. It's just such a pleasurable activity.

I'm quite content to stay in the house too, we've got lots to do so sometimes just end up doing stuff round the house or garden. I think the walking is just quite beneficial at the moment because there isn't anywhere really to go so it provides a change of scenery.

@Meruem On the pavements in London dodging people and traffic isn't fun but plenty of nice walks in London with the canals and the Thames path and in quieter times the parks.

I like going for walks but only when I have my headphones in listening to an interesting podcast or good music. I never enjoy it as much when I’m walking with someone else and can’t have my headphones in.

@museumum I spend a lot of time chasing after my 2 year old so I move around a lot indoors but I have also found myself eating less too. The only time I really leave for the walk is to let my 2 year old have a stretcch and let off steam, but no I don't feel that I get stiff by staying at home. I quite enjoy it, reading, watching new shows and simply pottering about.

What about moving your body? Do you not get stiff sitting too much? Or do you pace about your house a lot? I walk to loosen off and get my blood flowing.

I take the dog out early in the morning / earlier if working before there’s too many humans about including weekends - that’s my normal pattern anyway .
