Self catering UK holidays this summer

We have got a week in a self catering property booked for mid August, do you think there is any chance we will be able to go?

We were due to visit Cornwall in early July but cancelled it last month and have a credit voucher for the deposit paid which I can use for later in the year or next year.
Don't plan on going anywhere at all this year and even when we do next year will stick to staying in Scotland. Very much doubt we will make the massive trek down to Devon or Cornwall again.

We’ve booked a place for August. As we have children with disabilities we tend to strict to things outdoors and non touristy things. As long as the weather is okay and we can hit the beach we’d be okay. We can’t access restaurants as one has an autoimmune condition meaning he can’t eat quite a lot of foods.

We are planning Scotland in late July staying with friends. No issues with postponing of course as nothing booked except annual leave at work. Hopeful it can go ahead as no need to stay in hotels or eat out and haven't seen them for months. If restaurants and some pubs start to reopen then I'm sure towns reliant on tourism money will be desperate for us to visit, they are already in deep financial trouble from missing Easter and half term this year, these are real people's livelihoods with families to feed.

We’ve got a holiday cottage in Scotland booked for the end of July. Mainly to visit family and friends, and there’s obviously all the normal beaches and outside stuff to do if open.
I’m hoping we can still go, but not expecting to.

We've been offered a rebooking next year if we don't go this year. Can't see it happening now even by August.

We had booked accommodation for the Edinburgh Fringe (obviously at considerably over the odds). When this all kicked off (and the Fringe was cancelled) we said we would still go if possible as we love Edinburgh and go every year. At the time I said jokingly “that’s if we’re allowed to cross the border”. Given recent developments I’m not sure that’s such a daft statement now!

We've got 5 days booked in a holiday cottage from the 25th of July.

We are not bothered about attractions as DS15 has severe learning difficulties and just does not do things like that.

Due to his meltdowns we cannot eat out either, so pubs and cafes being closed makes no difference to us.

We will bring all our food with us and take all our rubbish home and if any of us feels the slightest bit ill, we will pile back in the car which is a 90 min drive from our home.

If it gets cancelled, so be it, but I am clinging on to hope.

Ah yes, I just found the guidance (not sure why, but I didn't think "accommodation" was grouped with "hospitality" - sorry about that). I was hoping there would be some movement in June, but obviously not. I still have the last two weeks of June booked as leave, we were supposed to be going to Greece ……… :( but I had hopes of a few days away in the UK at the end of June. I will put my suitcase back into the loft!

We are not going on ours in August: if it was just me and DH we might still if allowed but with two 15 year old boys and the chance of rubbish weather and nothing being open decided to postpone until next year.

yes it falls under hospitality, so 4th July to be more precise. According to the 60 page document it suggests that SOME accommodation MIGHT open then, if numbers remain low.
Im not entirely convinced yet but it is giving us a vague date to move towards.

@Clymene. I agree. Nothing will be 'normal for a long time. Very little will be open so attractions will probably still be closed unless they can sort out social distancing. All it will do is increase pressure on local services that are already stretched.

I urge people please don't go away until we are through this, hopefully later this year. If we keep the virus low in transmission hopefully this will get back to normal quicker. But I fear if everyons flocks on holiday in the coming weeks / months it will spike again.

I think they will. Or a lot will. Those who work in the tourism industry probably won't but those people who live in these places as their home probably will. As I say, they are scared and won't want it brought to their front door so to speak.

To put it bluntly, there is no benefit to small communities from tourism like there normally is. We have no facilities. Our toilets are closed and our public bins are being emptied less frequently. Our shops and restaurants won't make any money from visitors.

So people now will be peeing in hedgerows, letting their kids shit on the verges and leaving their rubbish behind.

I wonder if the people who would be hostile to visitors consider whether the impact of zero tourism would probably be worse than that of the virus.

@userxx. Probably because deep down people are scared. They don't want the virus coming to their door. The establishments offering holidays want the tourists but the locals won't and don't. We have friends in Cornwall, in a real tourist hotspot. They have been holding meetings on how they can make it unpleasant and difficult for people to come.

The village we live in is quiet. We never usually get people coming here for walks etc but as I say we have been inundated. More people more traffic more dog shit everywhere and people feeding livestock, ignoring notices not too then getting shitty when told off. We are fortunate we have a local PC who is always about and he has chased quite a few away.

I personally don't mind people coming to our village but not the numbers we have seen.

I fear now the government has said you can travel anywhere this virus is going to make people turn quite nasty.

The other thing people need to remember us locals being hostile towards tourists. I know we all have a right to travel and all that but outsiders / tourists will be seen and treated like lepers and probably made to feel very unwelcome. They won't be wanted this year tbh.

We live in a small rural village that's been over run with 'walkers' the past 6 weeks. They have not been welcomed at all. I would love to go on holiday this year but its very unlikely to happen.

We have an air bnb booked for the end of August, even if we can go I'm not sure we would if all/a lot/some the things we want to do are shut.

It would be ok if the weather is good because we'd be on the beach everyday but if it rains I'd rather be at home!

I have a caravan in Devon booked for August. Hoping it might go ahead but fully expecting it might not. If it doesn’t I’ll rebook for next year
