5 weeks since i lost my smell completely it came back slightly after about 2-3 weeks could just smell vinegar & perfume!

Ive no idea if it was corona but started at the same time a hell of a lot of people lost their sense of smell aswell a lot related to corona.

So now can only smell anything if its right up at my nose & still cant smell smoke or bleach when cleaning, & i know a lot of people have theres back i just seem to be stuck here for weeks barley being able smell or taste owt
Wondered if anyone elses was taking this bloody long.

I lost my sense of smell completely at the beginning of April. It is starting to come back though. Today I was pleasantly surprised that I could smell some blueberries I ate. Not food known for having a strong smell

I lost sense of smell and taste for 3 weeks. Came back very gradually. It's now been.8 weeks and I would say I'm back to normal.

God its really so weird that it can go on for this long, i cant even smell bleach but can smell something that is not particularly strong! I had a sausage & egg sandwich this morning & felt i could taste it slightly, but defo cannot smell any food cooking or otherwise!
I was so worried in the early weeks now im like nearly 10 weeks im & really wonder of it will go back to normal.

I lost all taste and smell on 25th March. I'd say they're less than 50% back now, but they seem to come and go. I can cook a lovely dinner which smells lovely, then by the time I come to eat it, all smell and taste has gone. It's really annoying.

We live rurally and in early lockdown they were spreading chicken manure in the field next to us. I was surprised by how little it smelled this year. I didn’t consider it was my sense of smell that wasn’t right.

I may have had Covid mid Feb.All the symptoms but obviously not tested. Initially taste and smell was altered so very metallic taste in mouth. Didn’t really notice loss of smell because I can smell some things but not everything. I walked through a Wisteria arch today but didn’t realise I couldn’t smell it until someone walking past the garden stopped and commented on how lovely it smelt.
It does explain why my DH couldn’t understand why I wasn’t able to smell everything he was smelling.
I have to put things almost up my nose to smell them. It’s a distinct advantage when I have to walk into teenage sons bedroom. I had bacon and avocado on sour dough today. I could taste the avocado but not the bacon. Cooked salmon this evening and I usually have to wash my hands several times because the fish smell annoys me I can only just smell it.
I would say that taste is better than smell now. And smell is recovering gradually. It seems to be very selective.

Hello,

I've just realised that I can't smell properly again today. Had a bout of dizziness this week and pure exhaustion again. Not sure if it's COVID related (not confirmed but symptoms started 10 weeks ago today and loss of smell happened 9 weeks ago today). I've had many set backs and I'm not fully recovered by far. It's not another bug as I've not been out and all shopping is cleaned before it comes in the house. Lavender and tiger balm both have an odd, similar smell tonight (I wouldn't be able to differentiate them in a blind test). Beginning of this week I thought it's was finally returning when I smelt my washing and cut grass again for the first time.

Has anyone else noticed it comes and goes?

It has now been officially added to symptoms of coronavirus!
Probably should of been a while ago, that's all good & well but would still be nuce to know it will properly return lol.

It's from the BBC news app. It's about why loss of smell should be one of the government's symptoms.

I lost mine 29th March. Up to about 20% now. Really interesting article-

Yeah i cant smell any bad smells like farts ect Grin & although i can smell some cleaning products & handwash i cant smell bleach either which i find bizzare as its such a strong smell...it must be about 4 or 5 weeks since i got a little sense of sense of smell back & its only ever so slightly improved since then.

I know sorry, lockdown brain was thinking it was the end of the week !
Fingers crossed for you
I lost everything to start with and everything tasted like cold or hot cardboard.
Taste is much better now but still not as good as it was but I think that’s because the two are so bound up.
Again can smell some things not others .
Herbs not at all, had some coriander in fridge that looked like parsley and sniffed it to see which it was and still had no idea !

@Nearlyoldenoughtowearpurple no not really it has only been a few days tho it might not do anything & if it does get better maybe it was just getting better anyway.
I reas back your taste wasnt bad was it? Mines really rubbish but then again i cant smell any foods at all, we had chinese chicken for tea & bf said it smelt really nice cooking i couldnt smell a thing!
Main things i can smell are perfumed stuff am scented things, ive got used to use the poor smell i can cope with but i hate my food being so bland i really love my food Sad
Its weird how it gets slightly better then stays that way for weeks! Im hoping this is not it.

Hi how you all getting on?
I gave the GP a ring just to see if there was anything i could do, he prescribed be a nasel spray which he says to use for 6 weeks i havent picked it up yey but i think ive had the same type prescribed before when i had a constant runny nose it was called nasobec i think a steriod spray..

I rang mainly because i read about a women who lost her smell an taste for 2 years and she ended up gettin in back to normal after using a spray and slme drops hope it works. Oh i also asked the dr if it will come back he said it 'usually' does so fingers crossed.
