Has all this made you want to pack up and travel the world?

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, the tragedy of 26,000 deaths so far and a chance that someone I love and I could die of it, I have had a rude awakening regarding my perspective on life.

I know it is not possible to go anywhere right now, but once this has settled down, the thought of upping sticks and going on a worldwide adventure is all too appealing.

It's probably all a pipe dream as I have 2 primary aged children, but I can't stop thinking about al the opportunities that are out there that I might never do.

Anyone feel like this?

Yes! I travel a lot - mostly for work - and am missing it terribly. The minute it becomes possible to book a flight, that's what I'll be doing.

And I suspect a lot of the 'I will never fly again and from now on will only go on eco-friendly holidays in Devon' will be doing the same thing too before too long.

@transformandriseup I'm the same. I became a bit obsessed with having savings due to living on my own and worrying about unexpected bills etc. I'm definitely going to relax a bit and enjoy myself more.

Sadly the opposite - for now. I had a 6 month trip planned to start in September, with a career break from work. It’s all on hold now for at least a year. We are re-thinking plans even for next year, maybe taking a camper van and going less far afield rather than long haul flights.

I have always made sure we have lived within our means but I am a bit obsessed with saving. I don't want to spend money pointlessly but we could do with upgrading a few things at home.

Yes, definitely. In fact DH was talking about this only half an hour ago.

Yes yes yes. We travelled a lot before having our three children and have always talked about taking them out of school (which we did two years ago to homeschool actually!) and just upping-sticks to go travelling with them. The problem we have is my DD 6 had a transplant a couple of years ago so it’s pretty scary with her and would mean only short trips due to medication and check-ups. She’s doing amazingly though.

Despite that this whole situation has given us so much time to think and re-assess things and the one thing we keep coming back to is travel and how much we want to go again. To show the children some of the amazing places we’ve seen.
So I’ve started thinking about increasing savings and paying off that last stubborn bit on the credit card. I’ve made a financial plan.

Speaking of tv programs, does anyone watch Ben Fogle Lives in the Wild? It’s one of my faves. I have them all on record and watched last night one where a young family from NZ sold up and went on the road in a bus converted to a home. Oh god, it made me want to do it so badly 😆

Definitely. DH and I ( in our fifties) were planning a grown-up gap year next year. It's looking like we'll have to push it back by a year- but we're even more keen now.

Loved Race across the world! Only discovered it in time to watch the South American one. We’re binge watching the first series over the next Bank Holiday weekend!

@Alex50 - the first series was fascinating also. Had’t intended to watch it but got hooked. Somehow they have got the mix right between the actual race, the contestant stories, and the countries they are travelling through. Plus, the contestants are real people, rather than wannabe reality stars.

Yes, definitely. I am usually very frugal with money and I regret our family not spending more on ourselves. I am hoping we can travel abroad next year.

Yep. I want to pack the motorhome up and just keep driving and catching ferries till we’ve seen everything... but that’s not practical and we will have to do that in stages instead with the children.

I also want to move to Cornwall and focus more on family, for my business to grow, for my husband to take the leap and work for himself and making life work for us. We seem to spend most of our time working rather than living :/

Our five year plan has changed. Ive no doubt my in-laws will hate the new plan but it’s not like we’ll be leaving the country...

Definitely - we’ve always travelled and want to carry on doing so. Would like to start with seeing my parents and DSIS in Belgium and DH’s family in Canada and the US.

It’s made me decide to start doing travel type holidays with dd now she’s old enough and no more pool sitting around ones!

Well, I’m looking into doing home based RYA courses and learning to sail, dreaming about buying a sail boat, ....

Always wanted to do more travelling but my kids are 10 and (just) 13 so it’s shelved for at least another 10 years yet. I’ll be 61 by then .

My dad’s advice - in his 90s - was do it while you can. I planned to go to India next year, it may not be next year now but I’m definitely going.

We managed to squeeze one in last summer and will be forever grateful it happened. This whole thing has highlighted to us how you need to grasp life, take that trip etc.

Yes. I would love to go on holiday abroad again and there are many parts of the world that I would love to see.

I'm not a big socialite, but I do like to see other countries. Psychologically, lockdown is making me feel trapped, and as though my world has shrunk to just my own house and garden (which I do appreciate that l am lucky to have, btw). I can't even see my elderly parents.

Yes! I fancy Selling my house, buying a RV and touring the world like they do on the YouTube channels! I might even start a YouTube channel!
