If outdoor exercising is banned, what about dog walking?

Are they exempt? Expected to just use their garden for dog exercise? What about dog owners without gardens?

Smallest is a cockapoo, he's got curly blonde hair and gets terrible separation anxiety.

Eldest is a greyhound, long, lean and bloody fast.

Mumsnet has officially gone bloody loopy.

"Let your dogs shit in the house"

For fuck sake. Sort yourselves out.

Have they decided what breed the are?

One of mine was a collie when he was four, he used to cook his leg by every tree on the way to nursery.

Smallest is potty training atm, picking up poop from the pavement sounds preferable to having to grab the potty before he tries to empty it himself. Does a little life backpack count?

As long as you walk them on a lead, wait while they do a poo and collect it in a baggie

My DCs will be identifying as dogs for the foreseeable if dogs are allowed out and not children.

MN loves playing Top Trumps.

Too true.

Or would we be issued timetables to spread the use of the streets?

Yes, if none of you have enough common sense to go back in as soon as business is done, nor to walk to an unoccupied area for the ruination/defecation to happen

I am impressed at the synchronised bladder/bowels of the village dogs!

I’m a tinpot Stalinist? 😂

Just thought it sounded like a nice thing to do, if you were lucky enough to have your own personal space and could manage with it for a couple of months. No big deal.

That’s me told.

People with 'large' gardens cant go out for a walk? Define 'large".
This is some sort of social Marxism. Implemented by tinpot Stalinists

Heard what I thought was a sensible proposition on the radio the other day. To ask people with large gardens to give up their daily walk and exercise in their garden instead so that people with no outside space could social distance more effectively in less crowded public spaces. Sounds reasonable to me.
Walk miles most days with my elderly but still energetic dog in normal circumstances but she’ll cope perfectly well in our large garden for as long as it takes.

Explain to me then, why a dog's need for exercise is greater than mine

I really wish someone would explain to me, mn's obsession with ranking every creature in the world, according to some predetermined view of importance.

I think it's weird and often an overly blunt tool for complex matters.

Do you need to shit outside? Because, admittedly, if you did then your need is indeed as great as my dogs'.

I'm pretty sure my cats would be apoplectic with rage if the dog tried to gain entry into their litter box, which would lead to various pissing competitions around the house from felines and canine. He also holds it in to avoid using the tiny back garden. He must have a bladder of galvanised steel.

I was stopped by police yesterday, (they were stopping everyone with a dog) and reminded to only allow him off his lead if he has a solid recall and we're in a wide open space with no people in sight. His recall isn't yet reliable enough to allow that, so he's a bit frustrated.

Tonyaster They certainly do, in my dog stress shows itself with stomach issues, lack of appetite and dandruff and it only takes the slightest change in routine for him to be affected.

And yet cat owners manage.

Yes, by using my front border as a toilet, it seems.

I am sure dogs don't get rickets or mental health issues.

A career in veterinary medicine is not for you, then. They get both.

Yes cats shitting in my garden are annoying. I hose them.

Report

To 'Sarahinaccounts' saying "and yet cat owners manage" - most cats round here crap all over other people's gardens - much quoted ' right to roam' . Dog owners aren't allowed to release their dogs out to crap at will on private property.

50 metres?
In my small village with so many dog owners, families exercising etc how on earth would we maintain social distancing?
Or would we be issued timetables to spread the use of the streets?
