Today’s Boris Briefing

Said precisely nothing

No clarification on who Key Workers are for childcare. This is needed in 4 days time.

No addressing of the swirling rumours of London lockdown

No offers of direct support for workers, renters etc.

Oh we might order some tests that we should have sorted out weeks ago, yes that’s a good idea isn’t it.

No actual reassurance or indication that the government grasps the national mood on this

Just meaningless platitudes

I have zero faith in the government right now, I think we’ll get through this crisis with community co-operation in spite of the government, not because of it. Catchphrases and hilarious buffoonery just won’t cut it.

FFS. Sorry I’m just really angry and upset today Angry. I feel like so many of us are working so hard on this and there’s zero leadership from the very top.

For once I am not riled by it. They are not going to announce the big things until they have nailed the details. I actually think they learning from their mistakes and listening now.

I could be wrong, but I can see a difference in what they are saying and doing.

it is frustrating they didn't use the time before doing this. But to me it looks like they are trying to put it right.

I will never ever forgive the advisors who took us off piste with a gamble on lives though, with their "Special science"
They will have cost 1000s of unnecessary deaths, as we will never be able to correct that mistake.

Yes and I have noticed a lot of erratic driving on the roads. People are stressed and this can cause loss of life.

....or the Gordon Riots

'...the Government finally sent in the Army, resulting in an estimated 300-700 deaths. The main violence lasted until 9 June 1780 '

The briefing today was brilliant!

I had just watched Trump's speech, so the bar for brilliance was incredibly low.

Haha, you almost had me there. I only listened on the radio and they cut out for the questions bit. Don’t think I want to catch up with it anyway!

Well, I’m off to deliver supplies to my partners elderly dad and pick up my partners stuff as he’s moving to mine for the duration to minimise risk for his dad. And then put notes with my mobile number through all my neighbours doors to try and set up a residents whatsapp so we can help each other out. We’ve gotta rely on ourselves for this one, chapesses.

Panic or even violence won't kill hundreds of people

I'm a afraid it can. Look at the reform act riots in 1831 and 1832

I think it was to make us feel better in advance of some big announcement tomorrow.

I agree, I think every day they push off the big news to the next day

The briefing today was brilliant!

I had just watched Trump's speech, so the bar for brilliance was incredibly low.

Very few of the questions were answered, they just repeated the same things over and over.
'Are you aware that every day you delay introducing measures to help struggling businesses, thousands are losing their jobs?'

'We ask that businesses stick with their workers, and we will stick with them.'

How is that an answer to that question?!
I hate them, I hate them all.

Chris witty said the most important thing in that whole press conference which Boris didn't really push

If people take it seriously now .. we can stop future more serious measures for everyone hopefully

I wish he was our PM

Wrong measure being reported , sky news we can crack this in 12 weeks.
B actually said we can turn the tide in 12 weeks.
I think lockdown will come London Friday and rest of country on Monday.
Maybe they anticipate violence or panic if they let on early to this???
Good news re testing progressing.

Only we say "ooh would you mind er keeping out of pubs for a bit if you don't mind?"

I want the Irish PM.
Lockdown now because in my suburb it's business as usual: loads of over 70s at the salon, butchers, close queues in the chippy, newsagents...

DGRossetti · 19/03/2020 17:45

A far cry from the response the UK displayed (where Mrs. Thatcher actually listened to the experts even though she hated their advice) in tackling the AIDS threat in the 80s.

A chap my brother used to work with in the US studied that for part of his doctorate - it's often used as an example of how education can shape public reaction to disease.

I got all of that too. The only difference being I predicted it, and started making dinner instead. So in that tiny microcosm Boris actually boosted the Rossetti household efficiency....

Snap!

He doesn’t come across as a man you want in charge in a crisis.

I can't deal with another one of his waffling briefings

Seriously can we have Leo or Nicola? Just for a little while? Please?

Or maybe they could come down and teach him how to speak in clear concise statements?

Report
OhMargo · 19/03/2020 17:40

I wonder who ever had faith in this Government and Johnson especially.

He is a total buffoon and channelling Trump. OK he is trying now, since his eugenics experiment was found wanting.

Playing catch up is not a good place to be now. Brace Brace Brace.

I'm so angry and upset watching this. I just want the country to be put on lockdown now.

I work in retail, in a small town, people aren't listening to the guidelines. I absolutely dread going into work tomorrow, it actually terrifies me, which might sound ridiculous but I'm just so so worried we are going to end up in a worse situation than Italy if we don't take action now.

Let's hope people remember this when it's "X" time ...
