Actually Network Guy, I disagree. Many companies these days provide a large portion of their services and communications via Facebook.

I've complained previously to companies about this and their stance seems to be "But why don't you have a Facebook account? Everyone does" The fact that it makes me, and the many, many (predominantly) women who suffer harassment and stalking via social media seems to completely pass them by. Explaining using Facebook to complain about their services is potentially putting my life at risk seems a bit difficult for the new media generation to understand.

Such companies rapidly lose my custom.

Twitter is easier to remain anonymous in, but even then I have serious concerns about their security measures.

For slug - I don't use Facebook and there's nothing 'forcing' anyone to use FB, as far as I know, from comments earlier in the thread. Unfortunately many businesses seem to consider Twitter and Facebook important to their marketing, so until hell freezes over (or such firms go belly-up, whichever comes first), I think you'll just need to grow a thick skin and ignore mentions of Facebook (and any other social media 'services') just as I do...

Noooo!!!!! I won't go near Facebook because it is both a deeply misogynist and is offended by the concept of breast feeding. I deeply resent being excluded because I've had the misfortune to be targeted by a stalker (hence my FB refusnik stance)

Just out of interest, when filling in the form asking for name and e-mail and MN nickname, is the mail address checked against the MN nickname?

Only ask because I've filled in the details (with a temporary throwaway mail address for this competition only) and hitting "Enter" does nothing.

I would expect there to be some change to the page if entry accepted.

My mail address is similar to [email protected] (and I know that some mail address checks splutter and choke on that form with so many full stops!)

Using Chrome browser on an iMac (if that helps).

We think that the iPad is a fab prize not at all bitter that we can't win it and we wanted to make sure you all heard about it and our Facebook page which can keep you up to date with what is going on at HQ, webchats, campaigns etc blah blah funny etc

We know folks are concerned about privacy, as are we, it is something we take very seriously. Can we please reassure you all that we will NEVER link your RL name with your MN name and unless you were to post on MN or FB what your RL and MN NN and RL names are, they can never be linked to the outside world.

We do have lots of great comps and offers on Facebook and lots more planned, pop over and like us to keep up to date with all of the latest.

If you are at all concerned or have any questions, then please do ask and we will happily explain.

FGS, Just cancel the box, it's merely asking if you want to share it with your FB friends, you simply tell it now and click cancel on the FB box, you will still be entered into the comp!
