Am I overreacting? Have you any advice to help my four years old daughter until the GP get back to us?

My four years old daughter goes to nursery 9 am to 3:30 pm then to after school sessions 3:30 pm to 6 pm. My next door neighbour brought her in the morning and collected her in the evening this week while I recover nasty gastritis. However, this evening, he was informed my daughter has been complaining she was in pain when passing urine. He called me before leaving the school to tell me. I called our surgery straight away, but despite being promised a doctor will call back before 6:30 pm. No call was made, and I was already informed there is no appointment left for tomorrow. I carried a urinary test on a urine sample, and my daughter has a very nasty infection. She is in pain, and all I could do was to give her hot Himalayan salt bath, Neurofen, cranberry juice and vitamin C fruits (Strawberries, clementines), plenty water and taking her to the toilet every 30 minutes checking for blood in her urine since the urine test showed blood is present.
I am very upset with her school not calling me before 6 pm to inform me of my daughter's discomfort and pain.

Thank you, everyone. smile
May I clarify that I am not complaining about my daughter's nursery. It isn't their fault she has an infection. I am just concerned that they were aware she was complaining of pain every time she passed urine and never called me. but waited until her collection time to tell us. I have already discussed the issue with her school. I appreciate your advice.
If you had seen the reaction on the face of our GP when she did her own strip test you would know that I am not overreacting. Her nitrates level are over the roof.
As for not calling 111 last night: my daughter was fast asleep and slept all the way through to 8 am.
As for the previous night, my daughter she never complained of tummy aches.
She is on Trimethoprim 50mg/5ml oral suspension. 5ml spoon twice a day.
Once again thank you. Good night.

If you didn't call your GP til 5.50 then a urine sample wouldn't have gone off same day. Glad she got seen.

I know that but you said in your other thread that the Nurseries one was full of replies by defensive nursery workers and this one was really helpful. But that's bollocks. They're both the same.

@ longdiling I know it wasn't intentional. I posted first in the nursery discussion and then realise I should have posted in the children health discussion. It was an innocent mistake. :-)

Thank everyone. I called our surgery at 8 am. She was seen by a doctor at 9:20 am. I was assured I did the right thing by the consultant you saw us. She has very nasty UTI as suspected and fever. Samples are being sent to the laboratory to identify the bacteria attacking her. However, should she had been seen day time yesterday her urine sample test results would have been available before the weekend. My daughter is on antibiotics, but since we won't know until Monday what bacteria is attacking her, there is not guaranty the antibiotics will work. Therefore she may worsen in the next 24-48 hours, and I will need to take her to the emergencies. Once the laboratory results are back, we will know if the antibiotics need to be changed or not, and if she needs further test and CT Scan. She will need to be checked out in 3 weeks time. The reason why I am upset is that they said the had been complaining of pain EVERY TIME she was passing urine. Every time means more than twice, therefore, more than an hour.

Your replies on here are the same as on the Nurseries one Confused, advice and urging you to call 111. Hope she's better soon anyway

Caline, I understand that you are worried.

My post about ABs referred to your saying I will call our surgery at 8 am even if she is feeling better she will need antibiotics as a precaution.

Plenty of water nothing added and let her pass urine in a luke warm bath or let her hold a wet cloth down there when she's passing, takes away the sting for a bit

I posted on your other thread Caline, I understand that your daughter is asleep now so OOH may not be appropriate unless she wakes in a lot of pain.

If you can't get an emergency gp appt in the morning then if your surgery has a nurse practicioner they can prescribe antibiotics for a urine infection. Some walk in centres also have NP's and GPs who will prescribe. Failing that a paediatric A&E (lower wait times in the morning generally) With that level of nitrites she must have a raging infection, best treated asap.

@ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe The urine strip test clearly shows she has a urinary infection. (See photo) Because she is a child she will need antibiotics to prevent complications.

Am I overreacting? Have you any advice to help my four years old daughter until the GP get back to us?

Even some baking soda will be better than the juices.

Barley water to drink. It's alkaline.

Also, antibiotics as a precaution might di more harm than good.

Cranberries and cranberry juice only work as prevention , you should not use them when you have symptoms.
Same with cutrus fruit, it only makes it worse at the moment.
But sure abort the significance of the salt being Himalayan. Salt is salt.

Lots of tap water would be much better.

Thank you, everyone.
She only went to the toilet 3 times in three hours. The first two times she peed only 3 drops and complained. The third time she peed 50 ml, no complaint, then she failed asleep. Bless her.
I gave a warm bath with Hymalian salt as soon as she arrived. :-)
I have laid plenty disposable bed pads and a thick towel under her. I hope she sleeps well poor baby.
I am keeping her in tomorrow.

@RebelRogue The teaching assistant who told my neighbour worked from both venue and had been with my daughter from 9 am to 6 pm. She told my neighbour: 'She keeps complaining of pain every time she goes to the toilet'
So, we assume had been going for quite a while.

@wickerlampshade Our surgery has refused to see my daughter on many occasions when she was ill. I already called them at 5:50 pm this evening. The surgery closes at 6:30 pm and they didn't bother to call back!
I have Mission Urinalysis Reagent Strips bought online because for the past two years I keep on getting UTI myself with serious bleeding due to medication trials for HC and NDPH.
There were no ketones in the urine but 70+ Leucocytes, maximum level of nitrates, +++ Proteins, 6.0 PH, ++ blood, 0.30 Specific gravity, No glucose. I will call our surgery at 8 am even if she is feeling better she will need antibiotics as a precaution.

Did your daughter actually complain at school of pain or just to her neighbour?

Report
LouKout · 23/02/2017 22:21

Strawberries and clementines are :)

If you take her to the toilet every 30 minutes, she won't have any urine to pass. It isn't normal to pass urine that frequently. It's normal to wait until you have a full bladder, get the urge to pass urine, then void.
