I wondered if anyone had any good recommendations for books for a two year old which show positive female role models. I have googled but it is always good to get personal recommendations. Thank you :)

The Trouble with Mum by Babette Cole is good.

Come Away From the Water Shirley and Time to Get Out of the Bath Shirley by John Burmingham are both very good.

Some of the Janet and Alan Ahlberg Happy Families series like Mrs Plug the Plumber and Miss Jump the Jockey.

I would recommend 'The Worst Princess' by Anna Kemp... it's all about Princess Sue, who is fed up of waiting for her Prince Charming to arrive. However, when he does, she is not impressed and takes matters into her own hands! :)

Barbar and the Wully Wully - it's a lovely story and Barbar's daughter Flora has a very positive role in it.

My DD is a huge tinkerbell fan - she has male & female friends, everyone has their role to play in fairyland which is ruled be the fairy queen - none of this waiting around doing housework till the handsome prince turns up!

The Night Pirates is lovely. All about a wee boy who joins a rough tough group of girl pirates who don't tell him to go away because he is 'just' a boy.

The Worst Princess is brilliant, funny and right on the case. She rejects the Prince to ride around on the Dragon having lots of adventures.

Try the website 'Mighty Reads'. It's American but you might get some books available here too.

We have 'this rabbit belongs to Emily brown' its very good. Emily goes on lots of make believe adventures and stands up to lots of men who try to take her rabbit on behalf of the queen. Then she bollocks the queen and teaches her compassion.

Dd ready enjoys it.

Harry and the Dinosaurs - its Nan, mum, older sister Sam and harry in the household, so mum and Nan do everything and in one book the girls at school play football equally

Can't think of any which stand out in my mind- is that worrying or is it that my memory is not what it was since 3 children!

Thanks for the additional suggestions. I am just amused by the title Cinderella's Bum. Off to check that one out along with the others. Maisy Mouse did not spring to mind but a good point.

Cheers ;)

Maisy mouse books are lovely for toddlers and she is not a pink or girly mouse!
