Childcare

Irritating things that au pairs/nannies do...

Following on from the other thread, and apart from seriously evil stuff that my last nanny used to do, I would (perhaps rather pettily) include the following:

Piling up the rubbish in a huge pyramid on top of the binbag so she doesn't have to change it yourself.

When the pile topples over, scatter carrier bags full of rubbish from the kitchen bin randomly around the overflowing bin (so someone else will deal with the mess and not her...)

Diluting the washing up liquid (an Eastern European thing I think)

Removing the cardboard tube from the loo roll holder and chucking it on the loo floor, but not bothering to move three feet and replace it with a new loo roll.

Saying "It depends what you're having" when you ask if she will be eating with the family that night.

Dumping clothes in a crumpled mess on top of the tumble drier so she can get her stuff in it, instead of folding it so that it doesn't need ironing.

Having to be asked every week to do one simple thing (eg use the brush when you've had a poo, put the children's clothes away if they're clean and folded on top of thewshing machine...)

Feeding children processed crap that she has bought herself (eg microwaveable burgers) rather than grilling fish fingers and making mash to go with them (too much effort).

It is very funny and helps get the niggles I have about my AP into perspective!

MissBear

I think you'll find a similar one by nannies on NJ.

It is a public forum designed for lettiing off steam!

Do you have chidren yourself? Have you ever employed a nanny or an au pair?

I have and am finding a lot of the posts funny and am comparing them to my own horror stories.

I am also a nanny so I know first hand that employers aren't necessarily great either.

Go MissBear! Your family don't sound too... clean really. Seriously, they expect you to sort through they washing basket? I'd be embarrassed if anybody saw my knickers I'd bee wearing at the start of my period! And wtf? Skid marks? Did his mother never teach him how to wipe his bottom?

But still, in lightheartedness, we could go on and on about employers, much like they could about us.

As a professional and very experienced nanny I am appalled by the small mindedness of this topic.
Yes I know it was started as just a bit of fun but god, grow up ladies! If this is all you have to complain about in your lives then lucky you!
Maybe you should look after your own bl00dy children yourself, after all it was you who brought them into the world and have now palmed them off onto someone else ? deal with it! I bet a lot of you will say ?but I have no choice, I have to work?. Well I say b0ll0cks. Stop buying all the cr*ppy things that you don?t really need, live a simpler life and then just maybe your kids might grow up feeling like they weren?t just another thing to you.

By the way it really does go both ways - I get to work on a Monday to an overflowing rubbish bin, it hasn?t been emptied since I last emptied it on Thursday. There is a dribble of milk in the fridge and no bread to make the 4year olds packed lunch, grocery delivery isn?t coming till the afternoon and the nearest shop is a 4 mile drive away.
No laundry has been done over the weekend. The families laundry all goes in the same basket, I have to sort through it to get the children?s? out, knickers with period blood on them, his boxers with skid marks ? mmmmmm yummy!! Yes I could go on and on and on about it all, but when it comes down to it does it really matter? No, the poor children who don?t get to see their parents for more than ½ an hour a day because money is more important is what really matters.

I find it funny Ashamed to say I don't fold their washing when I take it out of the tuble dryer often (I'm not used too, I'm making an effort now! Haha) And I'll occasionally leave a saucepan or two in the sink, but then my MB and DB do the same and I'm the one who ends up doing it all in the morn anyways! Not that I mind! Though not putting water in the dishes is annoying. The sauces and gloop get stuck to the saucepan and I have to leave it to soak for ages before I can wahs it all, which makes my hands go dry and they crack (because I'm doing the washing like three times a day!)

I'd hire an au pair, you can get good ones and bad ones at the end of the day!

indeed mummyknows best

unfortunally many employers want a nanny, but cant afford/dont want to pay the salary of one, so call their childcare needs an ap instead

then wonder why the ap/nanny doesnt do all the cleaning etc

it does piss me off tbh

mumnnanny - i think most of this thread points to au pairs which of course are very different to nannies.

All you's lot have awful nannies etc...

I hope you dont pay them at the end of the month.

When you have a nanny your meant to be able to come home from work to a tidy house and see that the children are happy/in bed or eating tea.

I'm a nanny in Birmingham and would never expect a family I work for to clean up after me or the children.
I offer to do extra housework if I have time.

I feel sorry for all of you, truly.
You need refunds.

ABetaDad, my DH does that with liquid soap. It drives me nuts because when I squirt it onto my hand it just runs away. I chuck it out as soon as I see what he's done so it doesn't save him any money at all.

Funny thread. A lot less unnecessary offence-taking than the same thread would have now I suspect.

Tanzie - "Diluting the washing up liquid (an Eastern European thing I think)"

Erm... I do it with hand soap and snampoo and it drives my wife round the bend.

I think it might be a Yorkshire thing (mean, tight, careful, economical)

Ameriscot - that's actaully quite frightening - she didn't know or care where your childrne were and seemed not to even understand what babysitting meant. You're well shot of her.
