i went for a lovely walk this pm on my own,no kiddies as just have before and afters schoolers today, had a lovely peacefull walk in the febuary sun! and thought id go have a nice hot cuppa in the park cafe.
the cafe has a notice board so i asked if i could put one of vacancy ads up,which i done.
anyhooooooow an old couple (got nowt against the old, honest!) are whispering(not very quietly) between themselves about what my ad may say,the lady gets up about ten mins later and casually browses the notice board (i know shes looking for mine!) and goes back to her husband and announces "shes just a babysitter" !!!!!!

how very dare she?!!
im not "just a bloody babysitter",im a qualified, ofsted inspected childcarer who runs her own childcare buisness!!!!
im totally pd off with people,(old or young!) looking at cming as not a proper job because its "just babysitting"!!
arrrrrrghhhhhhhhh!!!

My mum and gran have recently found a way to belittle childminding as a profession by offering to 'childmind' my son for me!!??
This is a sly way of calling me a babysitter no? Was tempted to say didn't realised you had registered with ofsted in an innocent and surprised tone but fear they will retract precious babysitting services (which I rarely use but need to know they are there ifkwim)!

My relatives also call me wanting lengthy non-urgent chats whilst I am minding, or ask me who I have there and until when, which I don't answer as wouldn't want mindees hearin and realisin my nosy relattives are asking about them!

Professional CHildcare Practitioner was what NCMA wanted - but too many people voted against it

Ugh, How annoying!!

I've heard In home Childcare professional used before, but quite a mouthful!

I get a bit annoyed when people phone me up to talk at home, when I am working. It is a serious job you know people!!

i was surprised when an elderly lady was walking behind me with two mindees last week..with no prompting, she said oh i take my hat off to childminders these days, i know how much hard work it is and still for very little money..when i was younger i looked after 10 local children, got no pay and kept them safe out waking by making loops in washing line and fastening their hands into it!!!!..but at her not assuming i was babysitter!

my mum continuously asks "hows the babysitting going"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

why are they whispering at you putting up an ad and then getting up to read it? I mean what did they think you'd be advertising - drugs or something?!

Can't wait to be old myself. I'm going to be such an old misery you wouldn't believe it.

I make a point of gently moaning about regulations, or reminding people Ofsted inspect if they start down that route. I also point out the first aid training etc that you have to do, or "all the paperwork to satisfy OFSTED" to those sort of people if they say anything directly to me that is

I know, i get sick of people asking "how's the babysitting going", especially step MIL, who follows it up with "of course SIL is a PROPER childcarer, she is a QUALIFIED nursery nurse".
