Birmingham City Hospital Labour Ward

Hello everyone

I'm 39 weeks plus 1 day today. Has anyone given birth in Birmingham City Hospital recently? (especially since Covid restrictions lifted)

I would really appreciate hearing how things are there now.

I'll be giving birth in the main labour ward rather than Serenity sadly as I have GBS.

My named midwife has been off sick for over a month so it's been difficult to get advice direct from the source.

😂 I suppose it's true what they say about every labour being different. These babies love to arrive in dramatic fashion. Thanks for sharing her story.

Thank you for replying. That sounds very dramatic must have felt scary for your friend at the time. Was dad not allowed on the ward at the beginning stage of labour?

My friend was visiting her dad before she decided to go to the hospital. She called her partner to say she was going and he just never made it in time. My friend laughed about it because she had her last 2 children at home (not planned that way!) and her partner has had to hel0 deliver, this time she got to the hospital and he never made it.

Student was pottering about friend went loo and realised this was it. She pulled emergency cord, student panicked and started running to the hall to find midwife. Friend had baby with 6 staff present as student midwife had kicked up a scene!

My friend did 14 weeks ago. I don't know much in terms of where she was, but she was in a joint ward and dad never made it to birth (she gave birth to baby very fast!) She was being seen by a midwife and a student, was left alone for a few moments and then student was pottering

I did 29 years ago ... but I don't think that will be much help to you now ? 😂

You will be fine , just go with the flow , keep calm and think how soon you will be meeting your baby
