I planned for a natural labour on the colocated birth suite (subconsciously must have known)
Induced at T+12 (my birthday to makes to all the better) on a HEAVING antenatal ward, after walking, pineapple, clary sage, raspberry leaf tea, curry and sex had all failed to get me anywhere! Spent the afternoon either on the monitor or walking the length of the hospital while things got going with pessary. As they did, without drip, I was deemed "normal enough" for the births suite so we were back on.
Pool room being cleaned so given an ordinary room to start with. Vomited in it a lot, after gas and air. Given antisick and pethidine injection together. Not allowed in pool until pethidine had worn off a bit. Pool was ace, except for lack of progress, so whizzed up the corridor to consultant unit with worries from mw about baby. DH brought them bags.
Cdu mw was horrid, but kept my MLU mw as well and she was lovely. It wasn like trying to labour in picadilly station, but all giving different instructions. Eventually the prof came in and decreed forceps it all went calm instantly. Anaesthetist did spinal in one and suddenly it didn't feel like I was dying anymore! Episiotomy and forceps straightforward even with a little stuckness of shoulder (dd really didn't want to come out!!) and all sutured well before I regained feeling. Dh cut the cord, I held dd straight away, although as I was still wet and cold from pool, not skin to skin until recovery (Max ten mins, not a problem) . Postnatal ward was its own form of hell, especially when we were packed and ready to leave by ten and left at three. I had to wait for DH to bring my trainers though as he had lost my shoes in the transfer!
All in all healthy baby healthy mum is all you can aim for.
