Is backpain (constant) a sign of labour!?

I'm 40+6.

I've had no signs of imminent labour so far.

Then, last night on my way to bed I started feeling back pain. It's still there now. It's not coming and going, it's just there. It's low down and feels achey.

Could this be a sign that today's the day? Or is it just back pain?! (I w

This is DC2, but my last labour started 2 days before my due date with waters going, so this one is different already!

Congratulations!!! I'm hoping I will start properly today, had contractions and strong pain between my legs all yesterday evening, every 20-30 mins, they were getting stronger and closer so really thought this is it, now nothing Hmm just back to lower back ache and the odd tightening!! I'm 40+6 today!!

OK, so I can confirm that constant back pain can mean the start of labour! The contractions yesterday continued at the same rate, the pain intensified.

By 10:30am I'd called DP home, 11:30 we were at the hospital and I was 6cm dilated. (Took hours to get to that point last time!) Gorgeous baby girl born 3:12pm!

They let us out of home late last night, sitting here with lovely sleeping baby in my arms :)

Aarg! We've managed to send DS off to nursery without his lunch box! DP could deliver after his meeting but it's an hour round trip. (DS goes to nursery at my uni campus).

How annoying! Must have my mind on other things today Grin

I bet I go into labour proper then!

Oh yes, his phone is going everywhere with him! He's actually recording audio and switched on phones are usually an absolute no no. But not today!

Tell your dp to take a phone into the meeting with him. In fact not to go anywhere without it! Good luck sounds like baby's coming Grin

Ooh good luck OP just read the update! FWIW, my labour started ALL in my back, I was walking round Greggs (shocker) and complained i had back ache, was due for a hospital appointment later, got there and was 5cm dilated!

This could go on for ages, right? No need to ask DP to cancel his 10am meeting, or is there? (He'll only be 20 minutes away).

My lovely lodger reckons 8lb 6 and 3:55pm. She's looking after DS when we go into hospital, that'll totally scupper her afternoon plans today!

Thanks :)

Love the prediction, should I be running a book on this? Grin

7lb 4 would be great. DS was a day early and 9lb 4 (ouch!)

I was augmented last time (induced after labour has begun naturally) so all this build up to labour is new to me. Much better than than the Syntocinon drip - so far at least!

Fingers crossed, this might be the start of labour!

Having mild contractions now, every 3 minutes but only lasting 20 seconds and not what you'd call intense yet.

I felt a pop! Shock (Didn't hear it)

And I think my waters might have started coming out, either that or I weed myself a tiny bit! (Sorry TMI!) No gush like last time yet ...

Spoke to a MW at the hospital, she says all very encouraging :)

another one that started with constant backache - it was so sore I had to crawl to the toilet. That slowly faded, then built up into proper contractions. Took me 26 hours from the backache starting to delivery

Ooh that sounds promising, thanks for the replies!

Hope it's less than 12 hours till it kicks off properly though! 12 hours of pain before you've even started is just unfair!
