Car seats

Do ERF group 2 car seats exist?

I am getting very confused. DS 2.5, is outgrowing his Britax DualFix, and has only ever been rear-facing. His legs are halfway up the back seat but he doesn't seem to care.

Should he stay rear-facing in the next size up? Or is it time to go for an 'ordinary' forward-facing group 2 seat?

Check your manual for when you need to move up (both height and weight). We have an ERF to 25 kg seat (britax two way elite).

Actually never mind, looking at reviews it seems the Dualfix is known to be very short in the shell, which seems a bit misleading given they claim it to be suitable for RF to 4 years old!

You should be okay in that case replacing it with a different group 1 RF seat but if you want to be safe then it might be worth looking for one which RF to 25kg/group 2 anyway.

He must be tall to be outgrowing a group 1 seat at only 2.5. A "normal" group 2 seat is a high backed booster. So I think you'd be likely to want to look at ERF seats anyway, as I expect you'll still want him harnessed whichever way he's facing. Group 2 covers 15-25kg and as mentioned there are a few ERF to 25kg seats, and some which rearface to 18kg but are forward facing for group 2 (up to 25kg).

What you're looking at there is US advice but it is correct when rearfacing it's head top of seat to move up. However bear in mind if he's just getting close you might have longer than you think.

Safer to rearface until at least 4. There's a few seats up to 25kg, and lots that are up to 18kg. Mine is also getting moved out of his dualfix soon, and into either the axkid minikid or the besafe izi plus I think

His head is now a little higher than the top of the seat, which according to Britax is when you move them up.

It's not about the legs.... Where is his head in relation to the top of the car seat? Is his eye line level with it?

I have an almost 5 year old in an Axkid Minikid and he is comfortable.
