I recently decided against mine on a self-catering hol as I couldn't fit it in the car, but it will be brought into full service for camping.

I fancied Mango too - when I spoke to them they said you can get it as a special order (think they do it for other countries) and so it's a fairly long wait.

I have a 40L bright yellow which I bought last autumn so have only used it a few times this year. It's beautiful and wonderful except... one of the latches is broken. The knob that the latch latches on to has worked loose, like the screw is too small for the hole. I haven't rung coolboxesuk yet, will see if they're any help.

Coming very late to this thread - has anyone got a green one? Is it as lush as it looks online?

Also would a 42 litre allow fizzy bottles to stand up?

The Weaco boxes look good - I like the handles and the clips, but agree that the prices are v comparable.

I think it all depends on what shape suits you best etc.

I pesume the Waeco ones can also be used to sit on?

It's only the 25l that is significantly cheaper though. The 42l is more expensive than the iceytek 40l and I like the pretty colours . And for me the 25l wouldn't be big enough as we take loads of fresh stuff but I know others who disagree.

I have a rival coolbox for you iceytec worshipers....the domestic/waeco passive coolbox. Bought mine from leisure shop direct. Cheaper than an icey, just as good performance though... No funky colours though

I went camping this weekend. I didn't pre cool it and didn't have anything frozen to go in it. Or even ice packs. Mostly because I was disorganised. I tipped in a bag of ice once I'd packed it. It was all frozen 24 hours in.

I reckon ice cream would be fine

selvedge ours kept water mostly frozen for two days with no problems. Imagine if it would do ice cream as well :o

threeicklepickles, I would think it plenty big enough for a long weekend. The interior space seems bigger than my traditional coolbox that was apparently also 25l. I wouldn't want anything bigger from a car packing and storage perspective.

Also worth bearing in mind re- size is that our 55l in its original box only just fits through our loft hatch. If storage space is an issue then be warned :o

We have a 55l and it is massive :o
Had we known in advance how huge it would be (we had dimensions but somehow never visualised them properly!) we may have gone for a size down, simply because it's a bit cumbersome for an impromptu picnic or an evening concert etc. However when we camp for a week or longer it will be worth it's weight in gold so it's swings and roundabouts really :)
55l is also just the right size to be used as a seat round the campfire

Would a 25l one be big enough for a long weekend (3nights) camping, 2 adults and 2 kids?
We haven't got any longer trips than that planned, but I have been eyeing one of these up since last year...and I don't know how much longer I can resist.
Next year we hope to have week or longer trip booked as will be restricted to school hols (and there will be an extra dc too!)

To maintain the Amazement Impact (and the temperature), be very careful about not leaving the lid up longer than absolutely necessary. I don't let the kids rummage about pointlessly in mine. Kids are terrible for leaving the lid up, too.

The Icey Tek is a kid free zone!

What you must do selvedge is every time you open it you must grope inside, remove the desired item, feel it's temperature and then comment in amazement at how cold it still is. Even better if you can hand said item round to others to demonstrate :o
I was quite fascinated by mine and only did about 6 hours pre-cooling.

I throw a bag of ice into the box if it starts to warm up a little. Or if I'm only going for a couple of days and can't be arsed with all the pre chilling. It works great.

Same here. I have my 'pre-freezer' devices - old plastic bottles of frozen water that then go in the Icey tek 24 (or however far in advance I remember) hours in advance. Then they come out, and in goes the frozen and pre-chilled food and drink and the 'proper' freezer packs.

Bungs stay in - I haven't used actual ice directly in the box, so I tend not to have meltwater, I take the bungs out when I am storing the box so that it doesn't get fusty.

I freeze water in a variety of plastic bottles and use them to pre cool it. The bungs are to let out excess water once ice defrosts, although better to keep the cold water in if it's not spoiling your food.
