Bf at night - bad for teeth?

I live overseas and have just taken my 16-month-old DS for a dental checkup.

The dentist told me that I should stop breastfeeding at night - as it will damage my DS's teeth.

I've never heard this before - and it doesn't sound right to me (she said it is because the milk is so sweet).

Is this advice ever given in the UK?

Thanks!

Thanks a lot for your replies - really interesting article. Think I'll carry on with the bf without worrying about what the dentist said.

The dental nurse told me that the studies into bf at night were inconclusive. Definitely no formula or cows milk at night though.
