Lots of celebrations happening in some places, Birmingham one of them.

The sunshine girls' win today was fitting! Hope they can win tomorrow too. Would be great to see more of the dancing after their win over Australia

They didn’t have a choice when captured in the 1600s by the British

Big difference in being able to choose your own destiny, be it good or bad!

I caught only the end of this on Radio 4 yesterday, but will go back and listen to the whole programme. From what I heard it was a fascinating discussion with very impressive speakers.

In Our Time: The Morant Bay Rebellion.

Who hasn't been swallowed by China? They're set to be the next largest economy for decades.

Indeed @Doubtmyself - but that's not quite the same as Chinese economic colonialism, pushing to brake ties with Britain. Hats off to the Chinese though, they're masters of "divide and rule" aided and abetted by their useful idiots in the west.

They would have learned a lot from the British Empire no doubt.

Have a listen to @Edmontine‘s clip - fascinating stuff . Circa 46 minutes you’ll hear how Jamaica needed support for its economy and infrastructure after emancipation but that the country was becoming less useful for Britain after the introduction of free trade laws and did not provide the needed support.

Queen Victoria’s response to the people’s voiced concerns about poverty and poor working conditions was that they should work harder!
