Mental health/ bereavement

If this is on the wrong topic I am sorry.
I have a close family member that is very likely soon to lose their loved one after a sudden illness. We are all 40-50.
As well as the obvious shock and sadness about what's happening I'm very worried about my family member.
His mental health is not always as good as it could be and he isn't one for asking for help. The few times he's been to a doctor they have fobbed him off. He's also previously found other ways to ease his stress (drugs, not for some years) and I know he must be desperate for something like that to help him again.
To be blunt I am worried this is going to tip him into doing something he can't come back from.
I don't know what I can do to help him.
My family and I are worried sick

I'm so sorry to hear that. It might be worth getting in touch with the Anne Robson Trust who support people who are about to lose a loved one: annerobsontrust.org/ They have a helpline.

Post-bereavement, Cruse Bereavement Support have a helpline and also offer one-to-one support: www.cruse.org.uk
