Repeating a year at junior school

Does anyone have any experience of their child redoing a year? Son is 9, late August baby so youngest in year. Recently diagnosed ADHD and is now significantly behind in basic skills. It would seem a no brainer that he have the opportunity to repeat a year so he can catch up before going to secondary school. Does any one have experience, suggestions or thoughts as to the way forward. We are being told that him repeating a year is almost impossible. All other junior schools in area are full.

I agree with you.
My summer born son (with mild ASD) never liked school after he was forced to move up, away from kids nearer his age. He's v bright but didn't do well in his GCSEs. Use your child's disability to yr advantage & insist on him repeating a year, even at a different school... or keep him at home until they listen. I teach secondary & loads of kids aren't ready/can't cope.
