Toddler smacking me

My ds is 18 months now and has the tendency to start smacking me (only me) when he's in a temper tantrum. I just normally put him down on the floor and leave him to get on with it but then he throws himself around and smacks his head back on the floor and does this for around half hour. And he also screams bloody murder too. I don't know what to do. Everyone says 'don't take it personally' but it's hard not too. When you look after them,feed them and love them with everything you've got and then they hit you. Any advice?

Oh I'm really sorry for you, churrosand. It sounds like he's having 'the terrible twos' early. The only comfort is that it will not last. We cannot think ourselves into the minds of little children, so much goes on in them which is confusing.

@Rachelover60
It will just be things like if I'm getting him changed,or washing his hair or if we've been out for a walk and he wants to be out longer. It just if I'm doing something he doesn't want

Do you have any idea what causes him to have temper tantrums? He's obviously frustrated about something and cannot express it at his age.
