Bilbo for a boy?

Not really, just wanted to entice you in 😄

Lovely ladies of Mumsnet, please help! We're having a boy this Spring and we're really struggling for names we both like.

We'd like something that is modern, sounds lovely and is not too popular - it will be followed by, probably, David then our one-syllable surname that goes well with most names.

Names I like but are not 'the one':
Julian
Kit
Vincent
Patrick
Ali (Alastair)
Shay

Names DH likes, but I'm not so sure about:
Elijah
Caleb
Gene
Dylan

I know there's a bit of an eclectic mix there so I'm just hoping for some inspiration. Totally open-minded at this stage 😊

I'm not a fan of Christopher (Kit).
I do think Caleb David sounds nice, also Paul John.
Joel David
Adam David
James David

Well thank goodness for that! I only popped on to tell you not to be so silly, re. Bilbo.

Julian or Patrick. Or Julius (I know that's not on your list)

Patrick! I'm liking this a lot and also the nicknames paddy etc
Strong name for adulthood and I can also see a little boy carry it off well too

Good luck!

Love Kit!

Have you considered the similar Kip?
I know a boy who is just Kip, but you could also go for Kipling nn Kip.

"Also still liking Patrick. Bertrand does your Patrick get 'Paddy'? (Which I like as a nn)"

He doesn't much. But he was named after my fil, who as an Irish immigrant in the 60s was very sensitive about "Paddy" as it was a racial slur then, so it's never really been on our radar. He is Pat sometimes, and sometimes Trick. He used to be Patch until he was old enough to object! But he is usually just Patrick.

I'm married to a Patrick, he has never been Paddy, his friends call him Pat but me and our families call him Patrick

I like Dylan and Kit (but not Christopher) from your list Smile

Another vote for Kit, although long form Christopher as Kit David Name doesn't roll off the tongue as well as Christopher David Name.

Congratulations and best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy!

Bitoutof thanks :) He's a long-awaited babe after much trying/several losses. Discussing names still feels like tempting fate but am trying to have a bit of hope that things will go okay.

I'm glad my ploy worked 😄 Am feeling inspired and your confirmations re some of my names are making me like them more. Some great food for thought.

Am feeling Christopher 'Kit' and Seamus 'Shay'.

Also still liking Patrick. Bertrand does your Patrick get 'Paddy'? (Which I like as a nn).

Patrick also lovely.

Congrats by the way. Maybe Bilbo for a middle name? Wink
