Ps. I know a cat called Colin. Suits him well. Less so small person perhaps.

I have never met an interesting James. Or Tom. Or George. Very Waitrose and blah.

Your less standard names choices are excellent- love Travis, Fox, Harrison and Leon (makes me think of Jean Reno film- lovely)

Names I like:
Leon
Matthew
Dean
Names i really dislike:
Redmand(never heard - sounds a bit surname-y)
Tanner (rhymes with spanner)
Dox (it's an animal).

All the others are OK.

Good luck choosing your sons nameSmile

Matthew, Sam, Rhys or Adam are all lovely.

A few in there are unspeakably bad. Sorry.

I love Leon.

Hogan must be a joke. You can cross that one off right away.

Not Harris! I dislike place names and surnames as first names. And it's a brand. Then there's the Rolf Harris connection. And the fact that it sounds like slang for arse in some places. It's just the worst.

George is my favourite from your list.

I like Liam and Leon.

A lot (Sam etc) are a bit blah and others are truly awful IMO (Colin, Hogan, Fox, Kaine, Corey, Trent, Brad, Layton, Dean).

Not keen on your list but you can't go wrong with James.

Report
Gruffalosfriend · 14/12/2016 08:39

I'm not keen on any. They're either too common/dull or just not my taste. If I had to choose then probably Brodie.

Names I like/can tolerate more than the others:
George - solid, dependable
Oliver - adore this popular name & don't care that there's squillions of Ollies around
Sam - at least 3 of my my 21-year-old DS' friends have this name
Tom - see SamGrin
Josh - see TomGrin
Adam - see JoshGrinThere's also a couple of Charlies as wellWink

Neutral:
Corey - I like this but it's a name I'd get bored with quite quickly
Fox - kinda cool, suit all ages, however I think you'd have to have a strong personality to pull it off
Aaron - v popular choice amongst my catholic friends
James - only know dull boys/men named James. They suit their name.
Matthew - I've got a few Matthews in my family. All shortened to Matt & I don't like that name.
Liam - another popular name amongst my catholic friends. It's OK
Harrison - Ford. It's another OK from me
Harris - popular amongst mumsnetters on here & quite a nice name
Kaine - much prefer the spelling of Cain. A name well used on my family tree & I've grown to like it
Brodie - cool American dude without much intelligence; yet I sorta like the name.

Its a NO from me:
Leon - just urrgghhh!
Travis - see Leon
Colin - call your pet this instead. Not fair to subject a child to it
Dean - builder/plumber/decorator
Layton - really?
Hogan - no
Tanner - it's a occupation not a first name
Brad - a blonde, blue eyed surfing loving character on an Australian soap opera
Rhys - a friend chose this name as she didn't want it shortened. Instead she knows him as 'Rhysy'Confused
Scott - another character from that Oz soap opera, probably Brad's brother?
Trent - Scott & Brad's other brother who is sleeping with both his sisters-in-lawShock
Ryan - I know quite a few of all ages & all are bad boys. Really has put me off the name
Redmand - dear OP, your pregnancy hormones are going crazy! Give yourself a good talking too & start again.

I'm being light hearted so don't take me seriously. Best of luck shortening your listFlowers
