I associate Cardinals with Christmas, but not Robins. Anyways, Holly and Robin are both "nature" names and I think they are perfectly acceptable for siblings.

Yes I know a holly and a robin totally fine

It's fine - they're nice names!

Well would you have chosen these names if they hadn't been born at Christmas? If not then no, as you aren't naming some novelty act.

Plus I don't like the name Robin.

And siblings are frequently referred to by name even once they have left school.Hmm Do you really want them to seem a quickly suppressed grin every time their names are mentioned for the rest of their lives?

WingsAndThings, I'm going by what is usual where I live. Infant school Nursery (optional), Reception, Year 1 & 2. Separate Junior school next door but run separately Years 3 - 6. Each school has its own HT. So children with big age gap like mine don't go to the same school (if at all) until secondary. And seeing as my DC have very different strengths and personalities the younger one chose a different school from her sibling. A few people commented on that at the time but eldest has now left school anyway.

Holly and robins aren't linked to Christmas?

What?

Someone should tell the Christmas cards, the Christmas wrapping paper, Christmas biscuit tins, Christmas movies, Christmas children books, basically someone should tell Christmas.

Fortified... What? They will be at primary school for longer than secondary! Primary school - 4-11 and secondary - 11-16???

of course you can. They aren't really linked unless you mean because of Christmas in which case it's very tenuous and robins and holly exist all year round anyway.

I think its ok. With a five year gap they are not going to be at the same school until secondary and as senior schools are so big they won't be with each other even then.

I think it is also twee and I wouldn't like to be part of a name set that appeared to be a bit of a joke. If you had a clutch of other children called Sophie and Thomas and Paul and Louise in between, it would be ok. But for just two, it seems a little bit cartoonish.

Pity, as I do like both names.

Slightly off topic, I was at a social event recently with a person with a very obviously Christmas-themed name. Upon learning the name, a member of the group said "so, you must have been born at Christmas time then?" A bit of a pause, followed by the response in a slightly embarrassed voice "no, actually I was born nine months after Christmas".

I don't see a issue personally. You will get a few " seasonal" comments but I am sure you already get that now with Holly so why not.

Oh, I don't think I would.

I agree its a little twee. Ruby is a festive colour and not as obvious Grin

My children have Xmas names. One of them has it as a first name while the other has it as a middle.

My old boss had Robyn and Holly. We thought it was a bit odd and asked if no 3 would be Tinsel or Bauble but they stopped at 2
