Help with our dull names

DP and I like boring seventiesish names! We were talking names yesterday for DC2 (to be born imminently) and have a vague list, but would welcome comments or more suggestions. Please don't be offended by my description of the names if you or your DC have them, I guess I just mean we aren't into very fancy or faddy names. Lists so far..

Some names we have excluded for various reasons: John, Mark, Andrew, Stephen, Jamie, Ross, Alexander, David, James, Fraser, Paul, Peter, Joseph, Kevin, Jessica, Louise, Kirsty, Susan, Gillian, Zoe, Chloe, Fiona, Olivia, Sophie/a.

I prefer Sam to Samantha, I think it's out because we'd rather a standalone name. I like Sarah and Claire but work with loads, which is off putting!

For boys, I love Keir.

Yes she loves it and all through her school years was the only one in her year group, although there were a few girls called Helena. I like that Helen is classic and recognisable yet not at all commonly used now. On the dark greener baby names site there were only 51 Helens born in 2014 in England and Wales.

Agree Samuel isn't 70s, more our overall list is a bit that way, as well as ones one of us had liked but the other rejected. Can't use Jacqueline for family reasons, but thanks.

I love the name Jacqueline. Very sophisticated and the shortened versions, Jackie, Jacqui, Jac are great too.

Samuel isn't a 70's name though. My stepson is 18 and was one of many Samuels in the late 90's/early 2000's.

I have an 18 year old Helen and it's rare for babies now. If you choose it it will probably come back into fashion when she's a teenager. I do like Hannah, Laura and Sam and Keir from your list too.

Oh thanks everyone. I didn't really mean these names are boring or anything, just they are sort of classic and not fashionable or "out there". Obviously we wouldn't really choose a name we thought was dull!

Hannah has been a strong contender since DP suggested it months ago and I find it hard to really consider any others but Catherine, Helen and Sam are sounding good for girls too, as well as some of the suggestions like Rebecca, Ruth, Rachel and Naomi.

Boys names are even harder because I'll be so shocked if I have a boy. Euan/Ewan is a strong contender definitely. I also like Kerr, which has good family associations, but where we are people pronounce "care" as "kerr" - might be off putting? I've had to let go of my love for John and Mark as DP doesn't like them enough To be fair I've rejected loads of his too.
