George - boring or classic?

That's it really. I've loved the name for years but my OH thinks it's really dull. I'm interested to see what others think and how popular/common it is nowadays?

I have one, but live in a forrin country where there are 413 in the whole population. When I call his name here, he is the only one who responds. On holiday in the UK at least 4 other boys looked round every time. It dropped in popularity after Prince George.

My Grandad was called George and he was a lovely man, so that may be influencing my opinion, but I think it's a lovely name. Classic and solid. Not dull at all.

Dull as ditch water, and will probably date the child to within a couple of years of the royal birth. Also Georgie as a nn doesn't work for an adult IMHO.

It is a lovely classic name but I know 4 under 1. It's very popular around here.

Classic and sweet I think, and all the George's I've met are very nice. I normally really dislike 'classic' boys names but like George.

Classic, popular, but not crazy popular. Ds is only one at nursery of 70 children. There are 2 in dd's primary school of 320. The adult 30s/40s Georges I know are all attractive and interesting types and the little Georges are sweet, cheeky but polite little boys (mine included ☺).

I hate how it looks written down. Too blubbery and vowel-y

^ that's exactly it. Glad I'm not the only one Tickle

I have a Charlie (obviously) and he is a Charles on BC - never met another Charles; only 2 other Charlies!

I like it. Our ds is a George and he is a solid dependable affable chappie!

Classic. Not many in our school.

I love it. Classic but not dull. John and Mark are dull names. George isn't. I love how it looks written down - maybe because it looks a bit like the beginning of the word gorgeous.

I think it is over used. Like Jack and Charlie, there are just far too many of them now.

A classic is something like Richard, Paul or Philip. Not used much these days.

They are all boring but I like boring, I am not keen on names like Blue and Bear.

Both.

It's both and I think it's quite an ugly name. Something about the way it looks written down I think.

It's not my sort of name, but it's a classic. It's certainly popular just now.

I think it's a bit of both, but it's a nice name - use it! :)

Never met a George I didn't like they tend to be affable and charming chaps. That's why we called our son George and so far he fits the same bill.

I know Georges of all ages from a 90 year old (who is a really top bloke), to guys in their 30s to 40s to little boys. It's a great English name, classic and doesn't date. .

I think it's classic, but didn't pick it for my DS (6 weeks old) as I thought it was getting too popular (I know of 2 born in recent months). He has it as his middle name. we ended up picking a name that is nearly as high in the popular name lists but I haven't come across any others round here.
