Baby names

Sybil....what kind of vibe do you get from it?

From reading old threads it certainly seems to be love it or loathe it.

I'm really loving this name at the moment. For me I think it has a quirky yet timeless vibe. I think it would be so sweet on a little girl yet perfect for a woman.

I also love the unusual sound it has iykwim?

Do you think it goes well with Eli & Aphra?

TIA

Well you would think so but apparently their parents just liked the names and were amazed when people pointed out the Fawlty Towers connection....

Poor things had a hard time growing up.

Poor things! Were they named after the characters? Surely not!

Ha...are the parents huge Fawlty Towers fans? So funny! Grin

January I'm afraid I know a sweet little girl called Sybil (and also have a friend called Sybil) and I still think Fawlty Towers Blush

Doesn't help that my friend Sybil has a brother called Basil (seriously.)

I think for those of you that as associate it with Fawlty Towers, I think if you knew a little girl with the name you would then eventually associate it with a sweet little girl!

I can't say it in my head without using the voice of Basil Fawlty... Blush

I think that says more about me, than your choice of name though!

I don't dislike it, it just reminds me of multiple personality disorder!

Love it.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, exactly what I expected, a marmite name! But that tends to be my taste in general.

Nothing anyone has said has put me off it, which is good I guess. I was expecting Fawlty Towers and old lady name comments, and these are not deal breakers for me.

It's going on the list, though I'm sure you will all be hearing from me again as I'm so indecisive and this yet to be conceived baby will certainly be our last, so I want it to be perfect and fit with our other dc! Grin

Not a fan. I think fawlty towers & sybil the squirrel at a holiday Park but I don't love the old lady vibe in general.

PR-Downton Abbey, I would have considers it an OAP 's name ( along with many others which are now in the top 50 baby lists!).

However, now I link it to Downton Abbey, so I see a fiesty lady who married the mechanic, and her daughter, also named Sybil.

It always used to be the Fawlty Towers connection for me but I've since met a Sibyl who is about 19/20 yo and is nothing like you imagine a Sibyl to be.
She's a lovely girl which means I see the name differently now (although still wouldn't ever use it!)

Sybil Trewlawny from Harry Potter. I like it though.

I makes me think Basil! from Fawlty Towers. In my honest opinion it's awful, spectacularly so, sorry!

Oh I totally get Fawlty Towers, it's just I don't see it as a negative! Smile

What Fulltimemommy said was idiotic rather than horrible, but goady in tone.

I'm surprised to find I love the name! Quirky, simple and loving sibby for a nickname. It's lovely.
Think it's definitely one to bring back!

Oh Jasper I like that description!

I missed what Fulltimemommy said that got removed, I'm guessing it must have been something not so nice!
